Mondragon defeats White-Ra in the bronze match of World Cyber Games 2007 and is thereby the eighth non-Korean who has taken a medal in the prestigious event.
SEATTLE. It was two years ago a non-Korean could lay their hands on a medal in the World Cyber Games. This year, there will be two for the "foreigners". One of the medals will go to Christoph "Mondragon" Semke, who for a couple of hours ago just won the bronze match over Aleks "White-Ra" Krupnik. Winning with a clear 2-0, Mr. Semke is now the eighth non-Korean to take a medal, and the sixth Zerg player to do so.

Looking at the table to the right, we see that it has only happened twice that there are a lone Korean in the Top 3. This year will be another one of those, as both Hwasin and sAviOr failed to enter the Top 3.
Most StarCraft medals outside Korea
Back in 2003, Fredrik "FiSheYe" Keitel brought the first StarCraft medal to Germany, losing to ogogo in the grand final. Germany has been a long-time contestant in the World Cyber Games, and now they can finally boast with being the only nation outside of Korea to have won a StarCraft medal twice.
Six Zerg players has a medal
GoRush, Yellow, Blackman, ogogo, JulyZerg are the Zerg players that have also grabbed themselves a medal. At the moment, the Protoss players are down on four medals (will be two more with Stork and Pj) while the Terrans are dominating with nine. Note though that Boxer and Midas has given the Terrans two medals each.
Approaching tomorrow's final, a player outside of Korea might actually take home the gold medal. Pj, who shocked many by beating sAviOr in the quarter final said in an interview that if he could beat sAviOr he can might as well end up winning the entire tournament. A Protoss versus Protoss will determine the outcome. Will Pj be the first non-Korean in the history of World Cyber Games to win the gold? Tomorrow at about 21:00, we will know.
