Blackman versus EX - close and tough match
The first round progressed pretty nice, with a couple of really nice matches. A match that surprised many was the eastern Europe brawl between mYm.Blackman and iG.Ex, a match that ended 3-2 in favour for the Russian. With Blackman having some sort of legend status in gaming, especially in the Polish community, this was kind of an upset for them. He was the only Polish player The GosuBet mineral spread was 49% for Ex and 51% for Blackman. As always in the » GosuBet comments, there were many discussions about the unique style of Blackman. However, many believed in iG.Ex too, especially since he came Top 8 in WCG 2005 in Singapore. Ex won the first 2 games, Blackman the 2 after that and Ex won the deciding game on Gaia. Comments on the match from BW-ZpuX sounded like this: "I obbed the 2 first games and I was not impressed at all by either of the players performance. Blackman played sloppy and without macro. Ex played without micro losing 20 m&m to 2 lurkers etc." Well, the replays will have to speak for itself, which you can download in » this newspost.
Templars of Twilight dominance
Also, this round was pretty successful for Templars of Twilight, with their four members Mondragon, Testie, Odin and Midian. They all won their matches and passed on to the secound round. As BooP said in the news "Seems like ToT is on the role again...". Oh, how right he was, looking forward in the tournament.

ToT)Mondragon( > iG.KaaZ3-1
ToT)Odin > iG.Ex3-1

500$ USD, the biggest cash prize in GosuGamers tournament history
Okay, eight players left. Mondragon, Testie, BrEaKdOwN, Advokate, Ex, Odin, PredY (raplaced MidiaN since he left the tournamneT) and KaaZ fighting for the prize sum of 500$ USD, the biggest cash prize in GosuGamers tournament history. Also, when Advokate was to face oG)BrEaKdOwN, the German was not available, so Ex and KaaZ were supposed to play a best of three to determine who is to face Advokate. It turned out to be KaaZ, and therefore it was the Swedish Zerg KaaZ who played against Advokate. It did not matter much though, since Advokate won anyway. So, three Templars of Twilight members left plus the Russian powerhouse Advokate from MeetYourMakers.
The Ace Semi Finals
ToT)Testie( > ToT)Odin(3-1
ToT)Mondragon > mYm.Advokate3-1
Heavy-weight meeting - Mondragon versus Advokate
The semifinals were amazing. Considered Best Gamer of 2005, ToT)Mondragon( going up aganist mYm.Advokate, a player who brings out his skill in the most important tournaments. Looking at his WCG records, you see that he has ended at least top 16 in every World Cyber Games event he has partaked in (2003, 2004 [Top 8], 2005). He also won Team Liquid Tour 2 and thereby won 1000$. In this semi-final most people placed their bets on Mondragon (62%) against Advokate's 38%. “Fairly skilled among the top of their respective race in the non-korean community.”
- Testie about his opponents in The Ace.
- My performance has been bad. Not happy with it. But, I rarely play, so it's expected, he said just after playing against Odin in an interview with GosuGamers. On his way to the final, he had faced three Terran players in the form or Strelok, PredY and Odin which according to Testie were all fine and solid terran players.
- Fairly skilled among the top of their respective race in the non-korean community he says. Replays from Testie versus Odin can be found » here.
"Rivalry? Nah, there's no rivalry."
Testie and Mondragon has faced eachother so many times in online tournaments. Not so long before The Ace Grand Final, they played in Global Gaming League's AmeriCup, a match where Mondragon took home the win. Testie said that he did not lpay enough to beat him there. And in an interview, he tells GosuGamers that he probably won't beat him either.
- He's a monster, Testie says. To beat him in a series requires playing regularily and great timing, and to be mroe focused than I am now. He further says that if he got time to prepare for the match, it will be a good one.
Rivalry? - Nah, there's no rivalry. Good friends enjoying the finals as he takes away my rightful money.
The Ace Grand Final
ToT)Testie( > ToT)Mondragon(4-1
Testie took three straight wins against Mondragon
As everybody was hoping for and said, DaZe put the words pretty nicely.
- Hopefully it will be a series of great games and Testie will get some revenge from GGL Finals. The Swedish Terran and also clanmate of the two combatants believed in Mondragon, considering his great shape.
- But Testie is one of the best players outside of korea and will definitly put up with a fight. And a fight it was. Testie showed that he surely was in shape and took three straight wins against Mondragon. Christoph (Mondragon) could manage to take one map, but the fifth game was in Testie's hands, winning with 4-1 and thereby won a total of 250$ USD, while Mondragon had to settle for 150$.
