The 2016 League Championship Series in Europe and North America get massive format changes. EULCS switches to best of twos and NALCS switches to best of threes
The 2016 LCS summer split is seeing a big shift in the format. Best of ones are no longer going to exist and instead best of two and best of threes in their place. The EULCS is seeing best of two series while NALCS is getting best of threes. The reason for both scenes not using the same format comes down to one simple answer: Riot is testing things. Their reasons for each region having its specific format are based on established region customs. European sports, especially football, run on best of twos and are accustomed to tie situations in their region, whereas the NA region tends to do their best to avoid ties.

EULCS will be staying on Thursday and Friday and the NALCS will be adding on an extra day, streaming Friday through Sunday. To accomadate the increase in games and maintain nearly the same streaming schedule, Riot is hiring more staff and going to be running a second stream. Yes, that means two matches will be happening at the same time a lot of the time.
It's sad to see these changes not taking effect until the Summer split, but Riot and the teams need time to adjust and prepare for a more demanding schedule. This new format will definitely help in the overall preparation for the international scene, with Korea and China already using very similiar formats and being very well accustomed to series.
