To better understand and graphically illustrate the champion rates from March, we gathered the numbers from 239 tournament games from seven premier events, including: LCS Europe, LCS North America, MLG Winter International Exhibition, GPL, LPL, IEM World Championship and StarsWar Season 2. As you can see, every region is well represented in the pool so expect some weird results in the graphics below. Important note: Only matches from CET March times have been scoped. What this means is that if, say, a LCS NA games is played at 19:00 PDT on March 31st (04:00 CET on April 1st), it will not appear and be left for the April stats corner. Most picked: The fall of Ezreal Finally, after long (long!) months of staying on the top, Ezreal falls out of favor and his demise is as grand as his previous domination. The former most highly contested champion couldn’t even break the top 15 border and has only been picked 51 times out of 239 games. Staying on AD carry topic, we see a much more balanced ADC pool ratio-wise. Where there previously were just two AD carries (at most), there are now Varus, Miss Fortune and Caitly, all with relatively high pick rates and close to each other. Another change worthy of mentioning is how the top lane bruiser picks stepped aside to make way of highly contested junglers. With the need of high HP junglers who come with strong initiation/CC abilities, Jarvan IV, Xin Zhao, Shen and Volibear are, understandably, very high in the rankings. In conclusion, we cannot but mention how supports continue to rule the “Most Picked” graph. Lulu and Sona are the undisputed #1 and #2 with Thresh following closely at #4. As a result of the heavy favoring, however, supports that were heavily contested previously – like Taric and Zyra – were left outside the Top 15. Most banned and most contested: Kayle's supremacy Enter Kayle, the most vigorously pursued champion for the last month. With 123 bans and 180/239 (or 75%) contested rate (picked + banned), Kayle is the undisputed leader of both the graphs below. While those are certainly large numbers, they don’t come as a surprise at all. The broad tool kit that Kayle brings to the table is so invaluable that teams like Dignitas have confessed on video that they’d go for here whenever she is available. Being playable literally on every position (although her AD carry appearances are little to none), Kayle’s enormous popularity is just logical. Thresh, Elise and Twisted Fate are another three champions that are highly positioned in “Most Banned” and “Most Contested”. Thresh has been a highly-pursued (or rather hated) support ever since the majority of the players achieved supremacy with him, Elise is easily one of the most dreaded lane opponents because of her innate ability to battle HP stacking (plus, like Kayle, she can be seen on every lane, jungle included) and Twisted Fate has long come broken the Asian borders and quickly became a staple in foreign tournaments as well. Win rates (For champions picked > 12) We really haven’t seen Karthus in a while but with 17 wins out of his 25 appearances, the Reaper is ranked #1 in the top champions by win rate (counted above the pick rate median). Yet, surprises do not end there. Singed and Janna follow with 61% and not until the #4 spot and Zed do things start to appear more normal. In the graph next door, Jax leads the way with the appalling 23% with just 3 wins out of his 13 appearances, followed by Leona and Jayce. Have in mind that those are all champions that have fallen out of favor and neither of them broke the 20 times picked marker. Not the case with #4 and #5 or Xin Zhao and Jarvan IV, respectively. Both of them appear in all four Top 15 graphs so far (Jarvan IV even being the most first picked champion out of all!) but enjoy a very low win rate of 36% and 38%. While this might seem weird to many, a look back to the numbers from January says that such low win-rates are not uncharacteristic for J4. While Xin Zhao has certainly seen a great decline in performance over the last two months, J4’s win rate from January is at 43%, again a long way from the optimal 50%. Full stats Expect the next monthly "Stats Corner" during the first week of May. Until then, feel free to marvel at the full stats from March and at Sejuani's 100% win rate.
