Liquid Granpkt: "You feel the pressure more, but it’s good."

You’ve been in Prague since Wednesday. What have you been doing these past days?
On Wednesday we did nothing. Thursday was media day, we took pictures, interviews and things like that. We spent the rest of the day, playing some games and practicing. On Friday, we played two group stage matches but not in the main arena, rather at some underground place.
Sounds scary.
It looked like a garage, it was actually pretty cool. *laughs*
Is it better to play there where there are no fans?
I prefer to play in front of fans, on a stage. You feel the pressure more, but it’s good.
On Friday we also made custom games with mixed teams, like one player from ROCCAT, two from Liquid, etc, and they were actually pretty good games. It’s the first we did something like that. I played one game with Zeratul and it was horrible. I think Socke hates me for that. *laughs*
Do you stay connected with the other pro players outside the game?
We talk, yes, but there’s always the language barrier. Gamers2 are from Poland, we’re from Spain and we usually stay in groups, speaking our language.
On Friday, you played Dignitas in your first match. How did you feel going against them, considering they are one of the most popular teams in Europe right now, the newcomers that try to dethrone you from the top?
We knew that they were going to play Johanna/Leoric if we let them do it and we thought of a strategy to counter that. Even though they took the early game, they made so many mistakes that once we reached level 16, the game was completely ours.
In the next matches, especially the one on Dragon Shire, I don’t know what we did. We drafted poorly and played even worse. And the last game, we were two levels ahead and somehow just decided to throw the game. We went full yolo, we dived a keep at level 11 against level 9, they took the fight and got back into the game.
At that dive moment, were you thinking “we have to do that” or was it that someone suggested it and everyone followed.
We all thought it was a good call and if we had done it the proper way it would have worked.
You were matched with not only Dignitas, but also Na`Vi and PiP in the same group. What did you think of the seeding?
The first though was ”Fuck”. But on the other hand, the two teams that make it out of the group – in this case we now know it’s Na`Vi and Dignitas – would probably make it to Blizzcon. We have two chances to make it out and we thought that’s a good thing.
From a tournament perspective though, it’s not really good. You want exciting semi finals and not a 3-0 stomp. Maybe the other teams like ROCCAT can take a game or two but I don’t think so.
Do you think Dignitas and Na`Vi have good chances at Blizzcon, against C9, Tempo Storm, etc?
Against NA teams, I think yes. Against Chinese and Korean teams, I am not sure, maybe not.
Obviously you wanted to qualify to Blizzcon but was there any other motivation beyond just competing at the biggest stage? Facing a particular team, maybe, or seeing where the regions stand compared to each other?
I really wanted to play MVP Black again but today they lost to team DK and they’re not going to Blizzcon. I actually think it’s unfair that the strongest region only gets one spot. They should get at least two.
Do you think the number of slots for the other regions is fair?
I think two for NA and two for EU is fair. Korean also deserves two, then maybe one for China and one wildcard to fill the final slot.
You’ve said before that you don’t like Kharazim and that he isn’t as strong as you hoped to be.
Yeah, I though he was going to be the best support in the game. He’s really good, but he’s not the best.
We had to play him in one game today against Dignitas and we won it. I later spoke with Bakery who said they banned Malfurion because they thought I won’t go for Kharazim. And when we picked him, they were like “Oh…”.
Was it a spur of the moment pick then?
He was the only viable support left for that situation. I’ve played a lot of Kharazim but I can’t say I’m as good on him as I am on Uther or Rehgar. I am not super confident with him but then again you only have to press W and everybody’s healed. *laughs*
Are you excited for the Medic?
I think she will be an interesting support. I would say it’s all about numbers – if they are not good, the character won’t be either.
Have you played her on the PTR?
No, I didn’t want to let the new changes mess up my thoughts on the current version. but I’ve seen footage of players backdooring with her and it was really fun. And I’m excited about that as a support player, I'll finally being able to make plays.
Now that you are not going to Blizzcon, what is the future for Team Liquid in Heroes? Maybe a team House?
I can continue to play full time, even though I'm a student, because I haven't to go to exams and can learn for those whenever, like when traveling.
As for a team House, Team Liquid has a team house in the Netherlands that some of us went to to bootcamp For this event. I don't think a team house where ALL the players live would actually make us improve a lot. You have to then live with all the players and you will get annoyed with each other faster. So nothing like that in the close future For us.
