A few weeks ago, GosuGamers did a series of Team Spotlights on the teams that played in our Enter the Storm tournament. Most of the teams that played in that tournament are also about to play in the Europe Championship in Prague. The only team that did not qualify for the ETS #3 playoffs was Gamers2, and so we decided to take this opportunity to shine the spotlights on this team as well.

Gamers2 is one of the most stable teams in Europe, with their last roster change being 2 months ago when adrd was replaced by Baczek. That is in fact the only roster change that the team has gone through, after being picked up by Gamers2 on the 1st of March this year. Leofromkorea, Nicker, Szychu and Jowe are still all there as the original team member. This level of stability proves its impact when looking at the list of tournament finishes that Gamers2 has enjoyed. Gamers2 has been at the top of the European scene for a long time now, but is slowly losing that position to newer teams like Bob Question Mark.

Gamers2 entered the Heroes of the Storm scene by acquiring 3DMAX, a team that had especially proven their value in several Go4Heroes Cups. When adrd, the original shotcaller, left, they introduced some role changes so that now Jowe does the shotcalling while Nicker captains and drafts for the team.

Gamers2 has had a pretty longstanding rivalry with Team Liquid, often meeting each other in finals of tournaments. Gamers2 never really knew how to approach Team Liquid, and as such always ended up with the second place finish. The rivalry that Team Liquid now has with Na'Vi, is the same as the rivalry they had with Gamers2 at the start of the competitive season.

Gamers2 qualified for the Prague event after placing third in the EU Open #2 in August, losing to TL in the upper bracket and then Bob? in the lower bracket. Their best finish however was in the EU Open #3, when Team Liquid was unable to participate and G2 defeated Bob? in their second round matchup.

Gamers2 has played most of the other teams, scoring as follows in recent history (May till now):

  • Gamers2 has played Virtus.Pro 2 times, winning 50% of these matchups, losing 3 games.
  • Gamers2 has played Team Liquid 10 times, winning 10% of these matchups, losing 22 games.
  • Gamers2 has played Team ROCCAT 3 times, winning 33% of these matchups, losing 6 games.
  • Gamers2 has played Fnatic 6 times, winning 33% of these matchups, losing 7 games.
  • Gamers2 has played Natus Vincere 8 times, winning 62.5% of these matchups, losing 7 games.
  • Gamers2 has played Bob Question Mark 6 times, winning 33% of these matchups, losing 10 games.
  • Gamers2 has not yet played against Pirates in Pyjamas.

While Jowe often plays Illidan, Gamers2 is not really known for very aggressive compositions. Even with the recent buffs to Kerrigan Gamers2 is not the team to play her, and even Zeratul is often prioritized lower than expected. The most curious Hero that Gamers2 has been known to draft is Chen. Szychu likes playing Chen a lot, and is often very successful with him.

Gamers2 will have to defeat at least two teams out of ROCCAT/Fnatic/Virtus.Pro this weekend to continue on to the single elimination bracket. If they are able to reach that phase of the event, they might meet Na'Vi (the team they have the highest winrate against) or Bob?/TL (teams that G2 has <50% win rate against). Or, if Pirates in Pyjamas makes it to that phase, they will have the opportunity to fight PiP for the first time in an official setting.
