Virtus.pro and Natus Vincere managed to put the best show so far at Gfinity Spring #2 where they battled out for the second spot in the grand finals. The Polish team managed to prevail 2-0.
Following the first semi final match between Fnatic and Titan the next to appear on the main stage were Virtus.pro and Natus Vincere. The Ukranian team topped the group A following their dominant win over NiP in the last match of the group stage. While Virtus.pro finished second due to the round difference between them, they still trumped Titan and EnVyUs in the group B.
The veto process brought us very interesting maps to watch in this best of three duel. Virtus.pro went for their already established safe pick, de_train. On the other hand, Na'Vi decided to go with de_inferno. The deciding map was de_cobblestone which is after all favored by both Na'Vi and VP.
In the opening match we saw VP starting on less favored T side. They got themselves quickly on the board scoring the three consecutive rounds and making sure that they got enough space to work with in this half. However, with the first gun round Na'Vi showed their strength on this map which is also admirable. They were scoring a round after round, but eventually two more rounds slipped away from them to VP and the first half was finished with the 10-5 scoreline. As both teams were moving on to the second half, VP opened very well by winning a lot of consecutive rounds. The Ukranians had to call out for the time out and to try to consolidate their units. This paid off as they started winning rounds by breaking the A site defense. In the end, Na'Vi was the first team to have 15 round on the board and VP had to fight for the OT with the pistols only. A fast B push by NaVi didn't work out as VP shut them down and prolongued this map even more. In OT at first we saw a one sided game as VP claimed all three CT side rounds and they were moving on to the T side full of confidence. However, Na'Vi settled a pretty strong defense as well forcing this match to go once again into the last round. However, that round was enough for VP to score the first map in this Bo3 duel.
If the first map was nail biting than the second one was looking like a clear stomp by the Poles. They were up to 9-1 score and it was all looking like it was going to be an easy run for them on de_inferno. Eventually Na'Vi managed to take only 3 rounds on T side, although they are known as one of the best T sided teams. VP followed by taking the second pistol round for 13-3 and when it was all looking like a quick end, Na'Vi managed to step up and just shut down all entrances to the both sites. They had a huge road infront of them but slowly they climbed up to 15-14. We really witnessed some thrilling moments where players with 1 hp were clutching the rounds but in the end it was the most fair conclusion of this map to move it to OT. In OT both teams were trading rounds all over the place, showing excellent T strats and after the triple OT, Virtus.pro came out victorious which secured them the ticket in the grand finals.
The grand finals will feature a best-of-three series between Fnatic and Virtus.pro as it will be very interesting to see if VP can continue their perfect run, or if Fnatic can stop them with their shaky performance at Gfinity.
