Bastion used to be immobile. Until one day he sat on the payload and everything changed.
Whether pushing through chokes to gain objectives, or escorting the payload through a parade of heroes who want nothing more than to see you dead, someone has to lead the way. Overwatch presents several different character combos which all offer unique tactics when it comes to advancing through the battlefield.
Lucio + Reinhardt
Control Points: Ready or not, here we come.
In my Onslaught Composition, these two are at the core of a strategy which involves speed and momentum. Get in, destroy, sustain, and speed on to the next objective. I think Lucio and Reinhardt together, when coupled with a second support and tank with utility, could be a very difficult initiation duo to stop on objective based maps. Maybe not at the first objective, but onto the next, and the next, as they build momentum and the enemy team is never in a position to properly respond. This combo is all about speeding Reinhardt up with Lucio's buff, charging into a fight and attempting to stay alive while the hammer swings away. This duo is unfettered aggression.
Steamroll Potential: High
Winston + Soldier: 76
Control Points: This is ours now. You leave.
This is a simple two hero combo which nearly any other heroes in the composition can work with. It begins with Winston jumping in and setting up his beautiful little shield hut. Soldier: 76 can then sprint inside and start popping off that steady pat-pat-pat of rifle fire. Shields don't last forever, but Soldier: 76 has his own area of effect heal, which means once these two have taken your point, you're going to have a hard time kicking them out.
Steamroll Potential: Medium
Bastion + Mercy
Payload: Slow and Steady
Bastion is a tank, literally, and he can turn the Payload into a tank as well. As seen here, the Payload cart is generous to our less mobile players. However, while sitting in Configuration: Turret atop of the payload, he becomes a sitting duck. Or sitting robot. Robot duck. The point is people want to shoot him a lot. His own shields are adequate, but not amazing, however Mercy is there to provide sustained healing. Mercy works well with Bastion not only because she can resurrect him, if, when, he dies, but also because she has great mobility which make her hard to kill. You surround an immobile damage machine with a mobile source of life, and the enemy team is in for a constant barrage of bullets.
Steamroll Potential: Low
Reaper + Widowmaker
Payload: Freeroll
When there is no one alive to defend, pushing the payload becomes much easier. This is the gambler's tactic, featuring a front line of pick classes. Reaper excels at causing having behind the enemy team, and in all that confusion the enemy often forgets about sightlines; then Widowmaker, well, she makes some widows. These classes excel at taking out single targets, and quite frankly making the other team afraid to fight. Ideally nearly everyone in this composition would be mobile enough to evade the fire concentrated on the payload while still making objective progress. A true feast or famine composition.
Steamroll Potential: Extremely High, depending on your assassin carries.
