Group A and B of the first GSL Season in 2013 are done with and while the clash of the titans eventually held the gravity everyone expected, someone else came out on top of Group A. Terrans proved strong by topping the tables of both days.
When the SPL starters of the EG-TL versus KT Rolster match were announced, fans of BroodWar legend Flash were worried that the heavy workload of competing in two tournaments at the same day would put the KT Rolster ace player under too much pressure. Rightfully so, as his all-kill earlier in the day promised him the maximum amount of games, causing him to falter in the decisive match against rival Jaedong. This put him into 4th place by direct comparison and thus Code A for next season. He wasn’t out until the last match, though, in which YongHwa had the chance to send MC out of Code S, but didn’t manage to do so. This way YoDa unexpectedly takes the lead in Group A by losing only to Flash in his supposedly strongest match-up, TvT. SK’s MC takes second in this ridiculously close group while Jaedong advances to the Wild Card matches this Friday.
GSL U&D Group A
YoDa4-1
MC3-2
Jaedong3-2
Flash3-2
Vampire2-3
YongHwa0-5
A little less close did Group B prove to be when TaeJa plowed right on through his five opponents to take a secure 4-0 lead. His fifth match against Shine wasn’t played out as the result wouldn’t have interfered with the arrangements of the table at all. Code S Season 2 finalist Squirtle was almost equally dominant, only falling to the eventual leader of the group. At the bottom, we see Trap, who was awarded one of the first KeSPA Code A invites in 2012, where he will spend another Season. With him and Dream so far behind in the group as well as TaeJa and Squirtle so ahead of the curve, the battle for the Wild Card spot was up to Shine and Happy. This battle, however, was already decided in today’s opening match when Shine beat the Terran from Team LG-IM.

Squirtle4-1
Shine2-2
Happy2-3
Dream1-4

Tomorrow we get to see fan favorite Grubby prove himself in his first attempt at the GSL in a group with LosirA, First, Bbyong, Symbol and DongRaeGu. The day after, HerO, Byun, Bomber, Genius, Byul and sOs duke it out for one of the few remaining Code S spots. This is followed up by the return of HuK into the GSL, where he will face NesTea, Center, FanTaSy, finale and Flying in one of the supposedly easier groups of this qualification cycle. The Up & Down week will end on Friday with the Wild Card group, for which Jaedong and Shine are qualified as of yet.
