Phil Galfond’s training site BlueFire Poker has announced that it has signed several new multi-table tournament specialists in order to expand their coaching to MTTs.
“For the past few months we have reached out to numerous top pros … looking not only for potential pros that crush online MTTs that could also effectively teach their styles at a level Bluefire Poker members have grown to expect, but also guys that are active and respected in the poker community,” states the Bluefire announcement. “After receiving audition videos for over 6 months, we are happy to announce that we have finalized our MTT team.”
The announcement marks a fairly dramatic move for the site, as the training site since its creating has been known as a site dealing exclusively in NL Holdem and PLO cash game coaching, in addition to the occasional SNG content. Galfond seems to be taking the site, who uses the tagline “smaller is better” in regards to its coaches, as the announcement comes off the heels of the signing of known pro Dusty “leatherass” Schmidt to its stable to coaches which already included pros like Jason “PBJaxx” Senti and the aggressive Frenchmen Martin “Giggy” Fournier Giguere.
New acquisitions include Chips ‘z32fanatic’ Ferguson, Darin ‘DarinVG’ Van Gammeran, Brain ‘bfizz’ Fite, Ryan ‘DieBanksters’ Peterson, and Andy ‘Raizin Azian’ Carlson.
BlueFire Poker has become heralded in the poker community for its notably high-level content as a sort of safe-haven for experts playing on the highest level. As a result, membership to the site comes at a none-too-cheap price tag with a $100 signup fee in addition to a monthly fee that amounts to over $400 a year, as it is targeted primarily to players of high levels.
With the impact of Black Friday on the poker community, as well as much cheaper offerings by training site up and comers like StackGuru.com (a free site specializing in MTTs from some of the best online players in the world,) BlueFire and other training giants will likely make aggressive strategic moves in order to retain as much of its customer base as it can. For a site like BlueFire, which serves a niche of sorts with its expert content, the struggle may be less difficult than a site like CardRunners, who offers more generalized poker training at various skill levels at fees similar to Bluefire, as training sites attempt to compete with other sites offering similar content at significantly less, or even free, membership prices for their customers.
With new inexpensive or free training offerings, new and inexperienced players will likely be advancing at even faster rates than before, while more experienced players will discover the peak of their poker abilities as more expert sites like BlueFire continue to expand their content.
Writer's note: We did our own research and found that the MTT pros at StackGuru.com had better overall results than most (if not all) of the MTT coaches at BlueFire. So, considering the fact that StackGuru.com is FREE for the time being, we’d strongly recommend taking a look before dumping $500+ per year on BlueFire.
