As the run to determining the November 9 of the World Series of Poker Main Event draws to a conclusion, WSOP officials announced the complete schedule for the 2011/2012 WSOP Circuit Series. The WSOP continues to tweak their schedule, related buy-ins, and eligibility for their season ending National Championship.
A new change of eligibility will pit the top players from both the World Series of Poker and World Series of Poker Europe in the World Rankings into the mix for the National Championship freeroll tournament. This will accomplish the goal of gaining more star-power to compete in the National Championship.
A total of 68 players will win their way into the National Championships based on their season point totals –32 others will win their way in by winning the Main Event at each stop (16 total) or being named the “Casino Champion”, similar to the Player of the Series Award, (16 total). Additionally, the top 100 players from the World Series of Poker Rankings will be eligible to buy into the National Championship for $10,000 –Each $10,000 buy-in will be added to the $1 million prize-pool.
Another change is the removal of the $10k Regional Championship tournaments, which after a decent start saw attendance numbers falter. The $10k events drew poorly and were not competitive enough with WPT events to justify another round of these high buy-in events on the schedule.
