Monday was a day most important for all the Code S players. The groups for GSL July have been determined and the 32 players now know what lies ahead of them.
Once again, the Code S participants have been divided into eight groups of four, but a slightly new format has been applied to how the dual-tournament format will go.
In contrast to previous seasons, only the fourth place player will drop down to the up-and-down matches. The third place will be out of the tournament but will keep his Code S status. The top two in each group will advance to the play-offs.
Significant changes have been made to the up-and-down matches. The Code A champion will no longer have to pass through them and will acquire Code S status immediately. Thus, the up-and-downs will feature eight players from Code S (the fourth places) and the top 7 of Code A, excluding its champion. Three groups of five will be made with the top two of each advancing to Code A.
The eight Code S slot will be taken by the MLG winner, that being MMA, the Columbus champion.
That being said, let's see how the Code S groups for July look like.
