The 2011 World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgota kicked off with two Day 1 flights this Sunday, and there’s some chance that this tournament could be record breaking. Last year’s event featured 1,042 entrants and was the largest in WPT history. Thus far, 460 Day 1A players have ponied up the $3,300+$200 to participate, a great sign for the Borgota.

Delaware’s Abe Korotki leads the Day 1A field and has amassed 261,100 chips. With the blinds at just 300/600, Korotki’s lead relative to the average chips stack is nothing short of massive with nearly 450 big blinds.

Though Korotki’s tournament resume is far from stellar, the Day1A chip leader has managed to come across media attention in the past after winning a $300 Ladies Event last year at the Borgota. Much like Nevada, New Jersey law forbids casinos from discriminating against customers, provided they are 21 years old. Ultimately, the tournament officials were defenseless and awarded Korotki his 1st place prize of approximately $20,000. To make matters worse, Korotki refused to chop with runner up Nicole Rowe, who had breast cancer at the time.

Trailing Korotki is the American Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, who enjoys 198, 675 chips. Will “The Thrill” Fallia, who recently took down the 2011 WPT Legends of Poker, is in the mix at fourth with 189, 500 chips.

Day 1B starts at 11:00 AM EST with a field of fresh, and some recycled, players. Those who busted Sunday will have the opportunity to give the tournament another shot and buy back in, creating an even larger prize pool. Check back for updates, we’ll be covering the action.
