Perrins becomes second player from same UK town to win 2011 WSOP bracelet
Playing No-Limit Deuce-to Seven Lowball for the very first time, Matt Perrins won the $1,500 buy-in event #9 at the Rio in Las Vegas. He won $102,105 from the $371,250 prize pool created from the 275 entrants who ventured to play the less frequently played poker game. Amazingly, Perrins is from the same northern UK town of Rochdale that Jake Cody, who won the recently completed $25k Heads-Up Championship.
Perrins apparently studied up on the game right before the event by watching videos on YouTube. He defeated one of the most underrated players in Chris Bjorin, who has had two bracelets and 28 cashes at the WSOP over the years.
Jason Mercier finished seventh for $10,524, which he promptly used to buy into the 5pm $10,000 Omaha Split Championship.
Final Table results:
1. Matthew Perrins - $102,105
2. Chris Bjorin - $63,112
3. Robin Rightmire - $41,643
4. Bernard Lee - $28,422
5. Thomas Fuller - $19,906
6. Josh Brikis - $14,296
7. Jason Mercier - $10,524
8. Aaron Schaff - $7,937
9. Travis Pearson - $6,129
