While the weakest field of the egaming sector in 2010, poker operations showed 7.1% growth rate from the previous year according to H2 Gambling Capital. Bingo, casino and sportsbook activity surround the World Cup showed the greatest strength and growth in 2010 up 12.5% overall.

The development of the French and Italian poker country markets were the necessary stimulus to keep 2010 from being a negative poker year overall. For 2010, the poker revenues came it at US$5.06 billion.

One area of decline was in the number of global real money internet gambling sites, dropping 160 to under 2,400. This reflects the impact of reduced consumer spending, intensifying competition and industry consolidation as the industry matures.

H2 predicts that revenue growth is likely to be 2-4%, dependent on markets such as Belgium, Denmark, Greece and Spain fulfilling “their promise under onshore regulated regimes” and established land-based companies continuing to enter the online market.

H2 also noted that mobile devices were a key driver of growth in 2010 which bodes well for the future of egaming.
