GosuGamers and Razer have teamed up to bring you the SMM 2010 Razer Giveaway Event. We are encouraging all of our members to get into the spirit of SMM and try their luck at predicting the SMM playoffs. The top prognosticators of GosuGamers will have a chance to win some seriously awesome Razer gear!

Some of you have been kicking around this place for months -- years -- and have nothing to show for it, save for a vitamin D deficiency. Well, we feel for you guys; that's why we sent our senior editor MrBlue over to Razer HQ to trade in his Samurai honor for a bunch free swag -- free swag we plan to pass onto you, our loyal readers.

The giveaway event will commence on the second day of SMM and take the form of an eight-match predictions bracket event. Participants will predict which teams move through the winners bracket of the SMM playoffs, beginning with the quarter finals, and ending at the grand finals. Correct predictions will score you points, incorrect predictions will score you nothing, and by the end of the tournament, the six submissions with the most points will win some great prizes.

The idea of this giveaway event is to make SMM even more exciting than it already is, and to show everyone why it's great to be a registered member of GosuGamers DotA. Read on if you love free stuff as much as you love DotA, and pay very close attention to the rules.

***For those who read the submission prizes before December 1st, 17:00CET, please note that there has been a change to the submission rules. Please read on, and the changes will be denoted with an asterisk(***).

Timeframe:

Half-way through the second day of SMM, the top 16 teams will be put into a playoff bracket (approximately 15:30 local time and 8:30 CET).

Shortly after the placements are determined, an official bracket will be published on GosuGamers.net that will contain the team codes and slot codes required for the submission form.

***An announcement will be immediately made in the news section of GosuGamers DotA, and users will post their predictions in the comments section of that announcement.

Submissions will be taken from the point of announcement onward, up to the very last minute before the quarter-final round of the playoffs begins (approximately 16:30 local time and 9:30 CET).

Participants will be required to post their submissions in the comments section of the announcement news and nowhere else. These comments will be required to conform to a precise format which will be dictated below.

Submissions:

Although the submission window opens once the round of 16 is announced, giveaway event participants will only be required to predict the results of the winners bracket matches from the round of 8 and onward. It is recommended that participants wait until the matches from the round of 16 are concluded (approximately 16:30 local time and 9:30 CET), and the 8 quarter finalists are determined, before they submit their predictions.

Submissions will be required to conform to a strict template as to allow for more efficient scoring after the event concludes. In their submissions, participants will be asked to use team codes (numbers from 1-16) in place of team names, and in a particular order which corresponds to the orientation of the tournament bracket.

Empty sample bracket:

This should be the state of the coverage bracket when participants begin writing down their predictions.

Similar to the sample bracket, the GosuGamers coverage bracket for SMM 2010 will provide the team codes for all teams involved as a number following the team name. The highlighted slots labelled I-IX represent the slots participants will be required to fill in.

Submissions will thus need to follow this template:

Sample form template

Username: (GG.net username)
Quarter-finals: (I), (II), (III), (IV)
Semi-finals: (V), (VI)
WB finals: (VII)
LB finals: (VIII)
Winner: (IX)

To give an example of a completed form, we refer to a filled-out sample bracket:

If the image above is what you predict to be the end result of the tournament, your submission will need to appear as such:

Sample form full

Username: heikki
Quarter-finals: 4, 8, 9, 14
Semi-finals: 4, 14
WB finals: 4
LB finals: 9
Winner: 9

Scoring:

Participants will accumulate points based on each correct prediction. Each correct prediction in the quarter finals (I, II, III, IV) will result in +2 points. Each correct prediction in the semi-finals (V, VI) will result in +3 points. Correctly predicting the WB finalist (VII) will result in +5 points. Correctly predicting the LB finalist (VIII) will result in +13 points. Correctly predicting the winner of the tournament (IX) will result in +21 points.

In the case of a draw, advantage will be given to the submission that arrived at the submission inbox at an earlier time.

***Important rules

1) Only one submission is allowed for each GosuGamers account. If the same account posts multiple predictions, all of their comments (including the original) will be ignored.
2) Each submission must follow the format precisely or risk being discarded.
3) Any editing will result in disqualification. Make sure you get it right the first time.
4) Any spamming in the comments section of the submission window news will result in harsh consequences.
5) At our discretion we will discard a submission (or set of submissions) if we suspect foul play.
