Lohen is live in Genshin Impact Version 6.6 (Luna VII Phase 2) and players are already hitting serious Cryo damage numbers with him. He is a 5-star Cryo Polearm main DPS who runs a unique mechanic: the harder your off-field teammates hit, the harder his own special skill and burst hit back. Get that loop right and he is genuinely scary. Get it wrong and he feels flat.

Build MetricConfirmed Optimization ParametersMobile Strategy & RotationsMeta Team Pacing

Damage Mechanics

(Dual Meters)

Joy Arrow: Maxes out after landing exactly 2 Charged Attacks to unlock a rapid 4-hit special Cryo Skill cast.

Will to Win Bar: Multiplies base skill and burst outputs by 1.4x (2.2x at C1) when fully maxed out.

Rotation Rules: The Will to Win bar fills strictly from your teammates’ off-field attacks. Never switch Lohen in until all off-field skills are fully active. Switching Lohen out early completely cancels his Cryo infusion state, immediately dropping his damage scaling to flat physical.

Artifact Builds

(Melt / Freeze)

Best-in-Slot: 4-Piece A Day Carved From Rising Winds (+43% ATK / +20% CRIT Rate total via passives).

Sands: ATK% | Goblet: Cryo DMG | Circlet: CRIT

Sub-stat Priority: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK% > ER. Aim for a baseline of 2,100 ATK, 65%+ CRIT Rate, and 180%+ CRIT DMG. Blizzard Strayer is a viable secondary alternative for Freeze setups, but trades heavy raw attack multipliers for easy CRIT capping.

Weapon Ranks

(Polearm Tiering)

Rank 1: Disaster and Remorse (Signature 5-star: 674 Base ATK, 22.1% CRIT Rate, yields up to 70% total DMG bonus).

Rank 2: Jade Spear | Staff of Homa | Fractured Hello.

Low Spender Tip: Deathmatch (R5) is the premier 4-star Battle Pass weapon choice, sitting cleanly near baseline 5-star options. F2P spears like Missive Windspear or Whet Tesle are strictly for casual content and underperform in high-floor Spiral Abyss.

Talent Focus

(Crown Budget)

Priority: Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst > Normal Attacks.

• Normal Attack talent can be left entirely at Level 1.

Crown Priority: Only crown the Elemental Skill (+6.2% total output boost). Crowning his Burst offers an insignificant 0.5% gain. Lohen’s Elemental Skill accounts for more than 92% of his complete field rotation damage across standard combat cycles.

Top Melt Team

(Hexerei Setup)

Lohen / Durin / Nicole / Citlali or Xilonen

• High-sustain Melt composition outputting a steady 145k–150k team DPS.

The Melt Trick: Durin deals heavy off-field Pyro hits to trigger consistent 2x forward Melt reactions and fill Lohen’s bar instantly. Nicole shreds resists and buffs ATK, while Shanlingxi acts as a budget Pyro option but risks stealing Melts down to a weaker 1.5x.

Alternative Comps

(Freeze / Geo)

Freeze: Lohen / Shenhe / Furina / Mona.

Geo Flex: Lohen / Albedo / Chiori / Bennett.

Use Mona in the Freeze setup; she acts as a Hexerei unit to successfully trigger Lohen’s necessary passive buffs. Freeze offers extreme crowd control but lowers total DPS because slow off-field freezing tick rates delay your Will to Win gains.

Energy Goals

(ER Buffers)

Burst Cost: 60 Energy.

Optimal Sub-Stat Target:110% ER Max (Fires Burst once every two rotations).

Ignore ER Chasing: Do not waste valuable CRIT or ATK sub-stats chasing the 155% ER needed to Burst every single rotation. Dropping your Burst frequency down to every second rotation costs you less than 8% of Lohen’s overall team damage footprint.

Constellations

(Pull Milestones)

C1: Triples bar cap; raises multiplier to 2.2x; speeds up bar generation by 5x.

C2: Fires bonus 500% AP hit; buffs team EM by 200.

C6: Permanent full bar; permanent max Joy arrows.

C1 vs. Signature: If you already own Jade Spear or Homa, pull C1 first over the weapon banner to secure massive scaling. C1 stands as the absolute best low-investment stopping point for budget accounts, while C2 is the premium choice for Melt.

If you just pulled him or you are deciding whether to spend your last Primogems, this breakdown covers his best artifact set, the weapons worth chasing, the team that is currently putting up the biggest numbers, and how his constellations actually stack up before you commit more pulls.

What Makes Lohen Actually Hit Hard

Lohen’s damage runs on two meters you manage while he is on-field. The first is the Joy arrow, which fills as you land Normal and Charged Attacks. Two Charged Attacks get it to the top. Once it peaks, pressing Skill triggers a special cast that fires four rapid Cryo hits. You can do this up to three times per Skill window at C0.

The second meter is the Will to Win bar. This one fills from off-field damage your teammates deal while Lohen is active. Small teammate hits fill it slowly. Big hits from characters like Durin triggering Melt can fill it in a couple of ticks. A full bar multiplies the base damage of every special skill and burst cast by 1.4x. At C1, that jumps to 2.2x.

His Elemental Skill also converts all his damage to Cryo for 13 seconds. That Cryo application is fast enough that Pyro off-field carries like Durin consistently trigger Melt, where Pyro-triggered Melt deals 2x damage compared to Cryo-triggered Melt at only 1.5x. That gap is why Durin is considered near-mandatory in his best team.

One more thing to know: switching off Lohen mid-Skill window cancels his Cryo mode early and reverts him to Physical damage. Finish your teammate rotations before bringing him in.

The Only Artifact Set Worth Farming for Lohen

4-piece A Day Carved From Rising Winds is his best-in-slot artifact set and nothing else is close for Melt builds.

The set works like this:

  • 2-piece bonus: ATK +18%

  • 4-piece bonus: ATK +25% after landing any Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Skill, or Burst hit. If Lohen has completed the Witch’s Homework passive (which he does as a Hexerei character), the buff upgrades further and also gives CRIT Rate +20%

Combined, that is up to 43% ATK and 20% CRIT Rate from the set alone, which pairs naturally with his attack-heavy Charged Attack playstyle.

For Freeze teams only, Blizzard Strayer is a decent alternative. It gives Cryo DMG Bonus +15% at 2-piece, and the 4-piece gives up to +40% CRIT Rate against Frozen enemies. You trade raw attack scaling for easier CRIT capping in a controlled Freeze setup.

Main Stats to Run

Slot Best Main Stat Sands ATK% Goblet Cryo DMG Bonus Circlet CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG

Cryo Goblet beats ATK% Goblet by roughly 9% in most scenarios. The gap shrinks with higher Refinements on his signature weapon, but Cryo DMG is the default pick.

Sub-Stats to Chase

Priority: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK% > ATK > Energy Recharge

Target ATK around 2,100 before resonance or external buffs. For CRIT, aim for 55-65% CRIT Rate in a 2-Cryo team, or 70-80% if Lohen is the only Cryo on the roster. CRIT DMG target is 180-200% or higher.

Every Weapon Worth Using on Lohen, Ranked

Disaster and Remorse (Signature, 5-Star)

Base ATK 674, CRIT Rate 22.1% secondary stat. This is his signature polearm and it is built for him.

After using his Elemental Skill, it activates two passive buffs for 17 seconds. One boosts Normal and Charged Attack DMG. The other boosts Elemental Skill and Burst DMG. In a 2-Hexerei team, the passive provides up to 70% DMG Bonus across all of Lohen’s attacks. At R1 in a 1-Hexerei team, it drops to 40%.

Each Refinement adds roughly 5% to Lohen’s total damage output. The gap between R1 and best 5-star alternatives is around 15%.

Best Alternatives Without the Signature

Rank Weapon Notes 2nd Primordial Jade Winged-Spear About 15% behind signature at R1. Strong if yours is already high refinement. 2nd (tied) Staff of Homa Excellent base ATK and HP-to-ATK passive. Very close to PJWS. 2nd (tied) Fractured Hello Competitive option in the same tier. 3rd Staff of Scarlet Sands, Deathmatch R5, Calamity Queller, Lumidus Elegy Good options if you have them. Deathmatch R5 is the best 4-star BP pick. F2P Missive Windspear (event), Whet Tesle Functional for casual content. Do not expect top Abyss performance.

If your only investment path is the Battle Pass, Deathmatch is your best call. Polearm F2P options for damage-focused characters are limited, so if you are a low spender planning to use Lohen long-term, the signature or a 5-star are worth prioritizing.

Talent Priority and Crown Value

Level order: Elemental Skill first, then Elemental Burst, leave Normal Attack at level 1.

Lohen’s Skill covers around 92% of his total damage in a rotation. That 92% splits into roughly 22% Normal Attacks, 52% Charged Attacks, and 18% special Skill casts. His Burst contributes around 8% since it only fires every two rotations.

Crowning the Elemental Skill adds about 6.2% total damage and is worth it. Crowning the Burst adds roughly 0.5% total damage. Skip the Burst Crown unless you are completing a collection goal. Normal Attack talent does not affect Cryo mode damage at all.

Best Teams for Lohen in Version 6.6

Team 1: Melt Hexerei (Best Overall)

Lohen / Durin / Nicole / Citlali or Xilonen

This is the team generating the biggest numbers right now. Durin sits off-field and deals consistent Pyro damage that feeds Lohen’s Will to Win bar quickly while also triggering Melt. Nicole buffs ATK and DMG Bonus for both Lohen and Durin. Citlali or Xilonen fills the flex slot for resistance shred and defensive utility.

In testing with PJWS on Lohen (before his signature), this team splits damage at roughly 52% Lohen / 47% Durin, which is unusually even for a main DPS team and makes for a more forgiving rotation if you miss a Melt proc.

Compared to a Mavuika Melt team (which reaches around 160,000 DPS but funnels 95% through Mavuika), a full Durin-Lohen team sits at approximately 145,000-150,000 DPS with lower variance. Missing one big hit does not gut your rotation.

Mavuika is still an option in the Pyro slot if you have her, and Shanlingxi works as the F2P Pyro substitute, though Shanlingxi’s faster Pyro application can sometimes cause Lohen to trigger Melt instead of Durin, reducing the reaction multiplier from 2x to 1.5x.

Team 2: Freeze

Lohen / Shenhe / Furina / Escoffier or Mona

A solid option for Imaginarium Theater or Spiral Abyss floors where you need Freeze for crowd control. Mona is worth running here as the sole Hexerei member since she unlocks Lohen’s passive buff.

The downside: off-field damage in a Freeze comp tends to land in the mid tier, so Lohen’s Will to Win bar fills slower. You gain control over the fight but give up some raw damage.

Team 3: Geo / Off-Meta

Lohen / Albedo / Chiori / Nicole or Bennett

For content that requires Geo characters, this comp works well. Albedo provides consistent off-field Geo hits, Chiori adds more, and the flex slot covers whatever gap you need.

Lohen also functions in random element setups for Imaginarium Theater. In testing with an unconventional lineup, the team still performed at around 130,000 DPS, which is above where most players expect him to land in non-optimal conditions.

Constellations: Where to Stop Spending

Constellation What It Actually Does C0 Complete, functional unit. No required constellations to perform. C1 Will to Win bar cap triples (100 to 300). Skill and Burst damage multiplier goes from 1.4x to 2.2x. Bar fills 5x faster from off-field damage. Best low-investment stopping point. C2 After each special Skill or Burst, fires a bonus Cryo hit worth 500% of Lohen’s ATK. Also buffs one teammate with 200 Elemental Mastery, boosting Melt damage on Durin. Best premium stopping point. C3 +3 Elemental Skill talent levels. Straight damage upgrade. C4 Burst always deals full damage regardless of bar fill. Bar auto-fills after Burst. Grants 15 flat Energy per rotation effectively cutting burst cost. C5 +3 Elemental Burst talent levels. C6 Bar is never consumed so it stays full permanently. Five special Skill casts per window instead of three. Joy arrow is always maxed. Special Skill and Burst gain +175% CRIT DMG. Skill duration extends by up to 3-4 extra seconds.

Should you go signature or C1 first? If your current weapon is Staff of Homa, PJWS, or Fractured Hello, the two options are roughly equal in total damage output (C0 R1 at about 129%, C1 with those weapons at 124-131%). With weaker weapons or F2P options, the signature pulls ahead. Either way, get Durin and Nicole first before spending on vertical investment.

Energy Recharge: Do Not Stress This Stat

Lohen generates roughly one Cryo particle every 2 seconds during his Skill window, giving around 5-8 particles per rotation. His Burst costs 60 Energy.

To Burst every single rotation in a 2-Cryo team, you need 155-170% Energy Recharge. That threshold is high and not worth chasing hard since Burst is only an 8% damage contributor. Running at 110% ER and Bursting every two rotations loses almost nothing and frees your sub-stats for more CRIT and ATK.
