Black Ops Zombies: How to Defeat the Pentagon Thief in Five
The Pentagon Thief replaces the traditional Hellhound rounds on Five, making it one of the most unique special rounds in Black Ops Zombies. Instead of overwhelming players with enemies, this round introduces a single boss that attempts to steal your current weapon. If you don’t stop him in time, you’ll permanently lose it.
Here’s how the Pentagon Thief works and the easiest ways to take him down before he escapes.
How the Pentagon Thief Works
Every few rounds, the Pentagon Thief appears instead of a standard zombie wave. He can spawn through a teleporter in either the War Room DEFCON area or the starting floor.
Unlike normal enemies, the Thief targets only one player at a time.
During the round:
- No regular zombies spawn.
- Only the targeted player can see the Pentagon Thief.
- Other teammates see only floating red numbers but can still damage the invisible enemy by shooting in his direction.
The Thief doesn’t attack directly. Instead, his goal is to get close enough to steal the weapon you’re currently holding.
What Happens If He Steals Your Weapon?
If the Pentagon Thief reaches you, he’ll take your equipped weapon and teleport both of you to the underground laboratory.
From there, you have one last opportunity to recover it.
If you eliminate the Thief before he escapes:
- You get your stolen weapon back.
- A Max Ammo power-up drops.
If he successfully escapes, the stolen weapon is gone for the rest of the match.
Best Strategy to Defeat the Pentagon Thief
Preparation makes this special round much easier.
At the end of the previous round, place two Claymores near the teleporter where the Thief is likely to appear. Since you’ll receive two additional Claymores at the start of the next round, immediately place those as well when the Thief spawns.
The combined explosions deal a solid amount of early damage before the chase even begins.
Use the Pack-a-Punched Crossbow
One of the strongest weapons against the Pentagon Thief is the Pack-a-Punched Crossbow from the Mystery Box.
Landing four direct hits inflicts enough damage to weaken him significantly. After firing the fourth bolt, quickly switch to another weapon and continue shooting until he’s defeated.
This combination is usually enough to eliminate him before he can steal your gun.
An Alternative Strategy
Another option is to purchase Mule Kick and carry a low-cost wall weapon as your third firearm.
If the Pentagon Thief steals that inexpensive weapon instead of one of your stronger guns, you’ll have far less to lose while fighting him in the laboratory.
The downside is that using this strategy occupies your third weapon slot and won’t earn you the Bonfire Sale reward for defeating the Thief before he steals anything.
Learning the Pentagon Thief’s behavior is key to surviving longer games on Five. With the right preparation and enough firepower, you can consistently defeat him before he escapes, keeping your weapons safe while collecting the valuable rewards he drops.
