Marvel Rivals Update Expands with New Map, Heroes, and Competitive Tweaks

The latest Marvel Rivals update introduces two new heroes—The Thing and The Human Torch—set to arrive on February 21st. The Thing joins as a powerhouse Vanguard, while The Human Torch takes on the role of a Duelist. A first-ever in-game look at The Thing showcases his massive build and raw strength, positioning him as a go-to choice for tank players. Meanwhile, The Human Torch delivers fast-paced, fiery combat, scorching enemies with his high-mobility skillset. More gameplay details are expected soon, offering deeper insights into their abilities and playstyles.
A New Map: Central Park and Asgardian Encounters
A new battleground, Central Park, is scheduled to debut in the second half of Season 1. This haunted terrain is now under Dracula’s vampire legion, adding an eerie atmosphere to the fight. The introduction of Rasco, the Asgardian squirrel god of Yggdrasil, marks another exciting addition. Previously seen in concept artwork, Rasco makes his in-game appearance, adding a mythological twist to the battlefield. Dracula himself is also revealed, with his full in-game model showcased for the first time. Additionally, a new castle map section is included, enhancing the immersive experience.
Competitive Mode Adjustments and Ranked Rewards (Marvel Rivals Update)
Several competitive mode changes are arriving with this update. Balance adjustments will impact Season 1.5, altering hero strengths and shifting the meta. On February 21st, ranked rewards will be distributed, including the Invisible Woman Blood Skin for those who qualify. Players reaching the top 500 will earn the Gold Crest, while Grandmaster and above will receive the Silver Crest. To qualify for these rewards, ten matches must be completed in competitive mode after February 21st.
New honor crests have also been introduced, varying based on rank. Grandmaster players will receive a white crest, Celestial players will obtain a blue one, and Eternity-ranked players will be awarded gold. The top 500 players will earn an animated crest with electric visual effects, making it a highly sought-after reward. Additionally, a new Blood Skin for The Human Torch is being added, further expanding customization options.
Hero Balance Changes and Patch Adjustments
Excess Chrono Tokens will now be converted into units at the end of the season for those who purchased the Battle Pass. The lead combat designer discussed upcoming balance changes, particularly targeting the triple-support meta. Defensive support ultimates will now have increased energy costs, while some Duelist and Vanguard ultimates, such as those belonging to Magic and Venom, will have reduced energy costs. These changes aim to provide more counterplay opportunities without eliminating the triple-support strategy entirely.
Doctor Strange and Magneto’s survivability have been reduced, while certain underused Vanguard heroes will receive buffs to increase their viability. Storm is also receiving a moderate nerf following her previous buff. Moon Knight’s ultimate will be adjusted to maintain balance. A commitment has been made to deploy balance patches every six to seven weeks, with emergency patches implemented when necessary.
Hidden Name Feature for High-Ranked Competitive Play
A new Hidden Name feature is being introduced for players ranked Diamond 3 and above to address targeted bans. In high-elo play, many players repeatedly encounter the same opponents, leading to frequent targeted bans of key heroes. This new feature will obscure usernames until a short period into the match, preventing opponents from easily recognizing and banning frequently played characters.
Official balance patch notes will soon be available on the Marvel Rivals website, detailing all hero adjustments and win rate statistics from Season 1, Part 1. More updates are expected soon, with further gameplay footage showcasing The Thing and The Human Torch. A new artwork reveal highlights these upcoming heroes, emphasizing their powerful presence in the game.
With major adjustments on the way, competitive players should prepare for significant shifts in strategy. Keep an eye out for further updates as Season 1.5 unfolds.
