My Hero Academia can be best explained by quirks and their users. These quirks define characters’ personalities and abilities that make them stand out from the rest. Today, we’re going to take a deep look at Star and Stripes quirk. This is known to be one of the strongest quirks to be ever introduced in My Hero Academia but the quirk that belonged to the character was unfortunately short-lived. Let’s find out more!
Star and Stripes
Another name for Star and Stripes is Cathleen Bate, she’s one of the major characters that was introduced in the later arcs of MHA manga. She’s also the number one hero in the United States and is quite patriotic. The spirit of American heroism she carries makes her stand out from the rest of the characters. Star and Stripes isn’t the type to back down and is brash with her charismatic personality. Now, if we take a look at her quirks we can find the following!
Basics
Star & Stripe’s quirk called “New Order” is among probably the wildest My Hero Academia quirks! Contrary to many quirks with some scientific reason (such as heating for Endeavor’s fires), Star’s quirk just bends the rules. If Star touches anything (a laser beam, an individual, even the air!) he can state a rule and it’ll obey.
This particular rule could be nearly anything! She can make a laser beam smooth enough to catch, or a rule that blocks a heart if it moves! (Although that one did not go very well). Star’s quirk serves as a sort of super-omnipotent “wish granter” for anything she touches – as long as she can clearly state what she wants it to do. Quite wild, right?
Limitations of Stars and Stripes Quirks
Besides the necessity of her naming and touching an item, Star can also be restricted to the number of rules she may simultaneously apply. She can only use 2 of the new order’s rules at a time, therefore she must stop 1 of her other rules if she should use a third. Additionally, she can not set rules impacting things she has not accessed via proxy. For example, she could not touch the air and then kill something the air touches. The rule could only affect the air itself.
When dealing with living things she also should understand what they think about themselves. But when she uses a name for them, they do not recognize themselves, her quirk will not be activated. This means she must understand upfront who her human opponents are so she can perform the quirk straight against them. However, the quirk also limits Star and Stripes’ own power. Even though she can apply the rule to herself to become physically stronger, she can’t make herself completely unbeatable.
Conclusion
Star and Stripes indeed had one of the best and most impressive quirks in My Hero Academia manga. But it’s sad that her quirks had a number of limitations that didn’t let her unveil her full potential. What do you guys think about her abilities? Do you believe she could have changed the course of the story if she had more opportunities to showcase her powers?
