Space Marine 2’s replayability boils down to grinding the Operations PvE mode and the Eternal War PvP mode. Each of the modes has its own distinct max level and level cap that you can reach with each of the six classes. Players will want to max out each mode with their given class to reap some serious benefits. Here’s a closer look at the Space Marine 2 level cap alongside a few choice tips to farm XP fast.

What is the max level in Space Marine 2

The max level cap in Space Marine 2 is level 25 for Operations and level 8 for Eternal War. The difference between the levels is largely due to the game’s balancing. For example, class levels in Operations are linked to gun levels and difficulty scaling. You’ll need to work through the appropriate difficulty setting to match your class and weapons’ level. This will give you more power and survivability against the foes you’ll encounter in harder modes. Here’s the recommended difficulty setting for every class level:

Operations also include challenges, namely missions with bosses and randomised mini-bosses that boost how much XP you take home. You may want to consider weapons and a class that can counter Terminus enemy types for one mission. For another with few bosses, a loadout that is better suited to dealing with elites and swarms will fare better. There is lot of grinding, weapon modifications, and loadouts to keep in mind when playing Operations.

Meanwhile, Eternal War is slightly different as you don’t get as many build modifiers. Instead, you get a few team perks and limited weapons. The cap is level 8 so you can master the class in multiplayer much quicker.

These levels are not to be confused with account level. Account level shows your veterancy in Eternal War. In other words, how much time you’ve spent playing. This carries across all games played, no matter the class. You’ll find this in the tab screen when checking the leaderboard, represented by a number next to your account name.

How to level up fast in Space Marine 2

To level up in Space Marine 2, you’ll need to play the specific class you want to level up for each respective mode. In Eternal War PvP, simply play matches to level up. The better you play, the more XP you’ll earn. Here are a few tips and tricks for farming XP in Operations mode:

  • Complete mission objectives
  • Find and extract with Gene Seeds in Tyranid Operations missions
  • Play the right difficulty for your current level, i.e. a lower setting when you’re level is low and a higher setting once you hit the higher levels

Firstly, the amount of XP you earn per mission is based on how many main mission objectives you complete. Each one you complete earns you XP at the end of the mission based on the difficulty level – harder difficulty means more XP and vice-versa. You’ll want to up the difficulty once you reach higher levels. For example, don’t try difficulty level 4 until you’re level 15 in a class. You can check the recommended levels via the difficulty screen in the Operations menu on the Battle Map.

Second, collect Gene Seeds whenever you can. These are collectables in Tyranid-themed missions that give you XP rewards. If one player collects a Gene Seed and your squad successfully completes the mission, all three players get around a 30% XP bonus, depending on difficulty. Gene Seed locations in each of the missions is roughly always the same. They aren’t guaranteed to spawn in each spot, but it’s worth checking every time to ensure better odds of finding them. Note that falling in battle breaks the Gene Seed, which occupies the Guardian Relics slot, cancelling out the XP bonus, so be wary while carrying one.

✓ Pro Tip

Gene Seeds offer a huge bonus to XP and are the fastest way to level up!

Lastly, we don’t advise farming difficulties below your recommended class level. You might complete missions slightly faster, but not fast enough that you’ll find a significant XP-per-hour increase compared to playing a difficulty setting that matches your level.

How long does it take to reach the level cap?

The time it takes depends on which mode you’re playing and your skill level. Reaching level 8 in PvP can take a few hours per class, especially if you chain solid performances that earn more XP. There’s not much else to worry about in PvP because most of the perk and builds options are removed, bar the basic loadout. Hitting the cap in Operations takes around 15 -20 hours, depending on how quickly you get through missions, your skill level especially on higher difficulty settings, and luck with the Gene Seed spawns. Operations takes longer as it’s a mainstay mode with a higher level cap, weapon levels, and more build varieties.
