How to unlock Stellar Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk

To unlock the new Tera Type in Pokemon Indigo Disk, you need to complete the main story and talk to Briar. Briar will be waiting for you in one of the classrooms after you complete the DLC story. Talking to her will unlock Briar’s Book and also make Stellar Tera Type Pokemon appear around the Terrarium for you to battle and catch.

A new Tera Type

Terapagos is the first of the Stellar Tera Type Pokemon that you will discover in Pokemon Indigo Disk. After this, you will start seeing more of this Tera Type in the Terarium. You can change your Pokmeon’s Tera Type into Stellar using 50 Stellar Tera Shards.

Stellar Tera Type Benefits and Weaknesses

The new Tera Typing appears as showing each Tera Type symbol in battle. A terastallized Pokemon receives the following benefits from the Stellar type:

  • Bonus to the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) of the Pokemon’s move
  • If a move doesn’t match the Pokemon’s base type, it gets a 20% boost in damage the first time that move’s type is used
  • Moves matching the Pokemon’s base type get a 100% boost in damage the first time a move of that type is used followed by a 50% boost

To further explain the bonuses above, if you use a move such as Flamethrower that is a fire-type move, it will receive a 20% boost the first time it is used. Using another fire-type move after this will not grant a boost. The same applies to moves that match the Pokemon’s base type but they receive a 100% boost followed by a 50% boost.

Two moves act differently thanks to this new Tera Type – Tera Blast and Tera Starstorm. Tera Blast takes on any type and deals super effective damage against any Terasalized target. Using this move, however, lowers the user’s attack, and Sp. Attack stats. Tera Starstorm works the same way and gets an impressive STAB bonus, however, it does not weaken the user.

There are no defensive bonuses for using this Tera Type because your Pokemon’s typing does not change while Terastallized.

How to find Stellar Tera Type Pokemon

After unlocking the Stellar Tera Type, you can find Pokemon with the type wandering the Terarium. They can be identified, by the multicolor sparkles coming off of them.

When you find one of these Pokemon wandering the Terarium, run into it like you would any other wild Pokemon to initiate a battle. Defeating a wild Stellar Tera Type Pokemon will give you 10 Stellar Tera Shards.
