Automatic Doors that don’t feel all that automatic despite your best efforts can feel like a waste of resources and time. This isn’t helped by Once Human’s sometimes obtuse electrical system mechanics, which can make wiring an unsightly nightmare.

We’ve more or less cracked it though and we’ll walk you through how to get Automatic Doors to work. If you’re dabbling with other electrical gear, check out how to get a Storage Battery to drastically speed up your farming runs. We also have a hefty list of tips and tricks.

How to set up Automatic Doors

Before we dive into the layout specifics, here’s a quick round-up of what you’ll need to get Automatic Doors to both open and close, well, automatically:

  • x1 Solar Generator or other power source
  • x1 Automatic Door
  • x2 Dynamic Sensor (i.e. cameras)
  • x2 Switch
  • x1 Wall Terminal (Ground Terminal or Suspended Terminal, if you prefer)

Automatic Door wiring

To start, place your door and Solar Generator, then put a Switch and Dynamic Sensor side-by-side next to or above the door on the outside of your building. Do the same but inside your building. It should look something like the images above. Place a Wall Terminal above the door on the outside.

Next is the wiring. Connect a wire between the door and the outside Switch, then repeat for the indoor Switch. Run a wire between the outdoor Switch and the outdoor Dynamic Sensor (camera). Do the same for the indoor Switch/camera combo. Connect both the inside and outside cameras to the Terminal with a wire. Finally, connect a wire between the Terminal and the Solar Generator.

The door should now open as you approach from the inside, then when you’re inside and move away from the door, it should close. The system is iffy at best due to the way the game is designed. We’re hoping Starry Studio puts together a patch to make the opening and closing detection of the camera/Switch combo a lot smoother in the future. The main issue seems to be the Sensor failing to pick up movement correctly.
