Mafia The Old Country takes us back to the series’ roots with a jaunt to the blistering heat of Sicily. It’s prime territory for some co-op multiplayer antics: racketeering meek shopkeepers for protection money, getting into scraps with local thugs, and darting around in wide cruisers. 

But, is that even possible? Does Mafia The Old Country offer anything other than a single player mob story rising up the ranks of the Torrisi crime family? The short answer is no. Can you play Mafia The Old Country in co-op or multiplayer?

No, Mafia The Old Country is a purely single player experience. As 2K Games noted in a community Q&A, developer Hangar 13 set out to deliver a cinematic, single-player story experience charting something of an origin story for the Mafia series with a fresh narrative and setting. 

As Hangar 13 president Nick Haynes explains, “With this title, we drew a lot of inspiration from the structure of Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II—particularly how their focused, linear storytelling resonated with players.”

As for any form of multiplayer mode in the future, the news isn’t great. 2K Games has pretty much ruled it out, stating that there are no plans for any multiplayer or online modes in the game’s roadmap. We might see modders formulate some form of multiplayer but it won’t be native or endorsed by the developers.
