Despite being pretty innocuous in the real world, glass is a pretty big deal in LEGO Fortnite and will be a key material in the later stages of your playthrough. It’s required for crafting two important late-game items, but you probably haven’t come across much in the run-up to this point. So how do you get it?

This guide will tell you exactly what you need to know so you can start crafting glass for yourself, including the materials required and what crafting tools are used for it. We’ll also let you know what glass is used for so you know what to expect once you’ve crafted it.

How to get glass in LEGO Fortnite

To get glass in LEGO Fortnite, all you’ve got to do is place a couple of materials in a Metal Smelter at your village. Sounds simple, right? Well, unfortunately, before you can unlock the Metal Smelter, you need to upgrade your village all the way to Level 9. Then, you can build yourself a Metal Smelter using 3x Blast Cores, 15x Brightcores and 35x Obsidian Slabs.

The materials required to craft glass are:

  • 2x Sand
  • 1x Brightcore

With these materials in your inventory, all you need to do is drop them into your Metal Smelter and wait for them to process. Naturally, if you’re making a lot of glass, you can just dump a bunch of these materials in and come back once you’ve got plenty of glass to collect.

What is glass used for in LEGO Fortnite?

Right now, the two most important things that you’ll need glass for in LEGO Fortnite are the compass and the spyglass, both of which can be crafted using a Crafting Bench. The compass is handy as it’s used for finding village markers, while the spyglass lets you see long distances, making it a useful way of spotting if there are any items, enemies or caves nearby.
