Besides the main quest, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is filled to the brim with side quests and tasks. They take Henry into all sorts of situations if you choose to follow them. Striped Tonies is a fairly humorous example in which you help a couple of miners with their tasks – and their consequences. If you’re having trouble with this KCD2 side quest, then follow our guide to complete it.

How to start the Striped Tonies side quest

You have to complete the side quest Yackers ‘n’ Fash to be able to start Striped Tonies. Then, while travelling through Kuttenberg at night, you can find a few miners carousing in the Black Horse tavern. Foreman Vlach is sitting at the table with Miner Franzi and Miner Anton Kaspar. If you speak with them, they’ll invite you to join them in their traditional shoot fest. Agreeing will start the Striped Tonies side quest.

1. Meet with Franzi and Anton

After your conversation with Foreman Vlach, skip the time by resting at the inn or waiting until morning before heading to the Hoprink Church. The meeting is set for morning, before noon. 

✓ Don’t be late

If you miss the meeting time at Hoprink Church, the quest will automatically fail. Also, you have one day to finish the whole quest – otherwise, it will also fail.

When you arrive, you’ll meet Miner Franzi and Miner Anton Kaspar, who were at the tavern the night before. They’ll fill you in on an old tradition and mention that you’ll have to protect them from their competition. After hearing them out, join Anton and follow him to protect him. While waiting, they’ll suggest pulling a prank on their competition, the Saints, who are at the tavern. Choose the “I’d like to get my revenge on Preng” dialogue option to also do the achievement Under the Brown Flag. They’ll hand you a pair of braies and ask you to hang them up at The Saint’s tavern.

✓ Bugged miners

Some players can experience a bug that causes the miners not to appear at the appointed time in front of the church. It seems to happen when you arrive in front of the church too soon. Your best bet is to reload the save if that happens and make sure not to come before 8 am.

2. Hang up the braies

You need to hang the dirty braies under the window of the Saints’ tavern, which is located across the street to the west from where you are. To start, head into the tavern and make your way up to the second floor. It’s important to crouch while going up the stairs, as anything above the first floor is considered a private area, and you’ll want to avoid drawing attention.

Once you’re on the second floor, go through the door on your right and then into the next room. Immediately turn around and you’ll spot a ladder in the corner. Climb it to reach the third floor. When you’re up there, head over to the open window at the front of the building. Interact with the window to hang the braies, and you’ll complete the task, while also earning the Under a Brown Flag achievement.

3. Have a drink with the miners

With that done, sneak back out and talk to the miners again. They’ll suggest grabbing a drink back at their tavern. On your way, you’ll run into a few Saints, and a confrontation will break out. You can either defeat them or make a run for it. Once you’ve dealt with the Saints, follow the miners to their tavern, the Black Horse.

At the tavern, you’ll talk about the brawl, and Anton will mention that he’s meeting a woman named Tess later that evening. It turns out it’s her birthday, and you’re tasked with helping Anton find a few gifts – roses and perfume. 

4. Get flowers and perfume for Tess

The roses can be found in a garden located southeast of the Kuttenberg fast travel point, but you’ll need to find a way in. The main entrance is a wooden double door, but you can sneak in through a wooden door on the right, past some wagons. Lockpick the door to enter. Once inside, you’ll need to be stealthy and avoid the gardener while picking the roses. Grab a Freshly Picked Bouquet and leave the same way you came in.

Next up is the perfume. You’ll find Else, the woman who has it, at the Cobbler Shop, northwest of the Kuttenberg fast travel point on the map. Speak with Else and try to charm her to get the perfume. You can do this either by being honest or by lying. Both options require some charisma, either Persuasion or Compassion checks. Afterwards, she’ll hand over the perfume.

5. Return to the miners

With the flowers and perfume in hand, return to Anton and Franzi to deliver the gifts. However, when you arrive at the tavern, you’ll find Anton on the ground. Franzi explains that Anton was worried you’d leave with the gifts and that Tess would dump him for forgetting her birthday, so he got black-out drunk. You’ll help by carrying Anton, following Franzi to the next church. 

When you approach the priest, a dialogue cutscene will begin. Anton is too drunk to perform the miner’s oath, and Father Tobias will ask you to step in. Whether you say, “I don’t know the miner’s oath” or “I’ll take the oath in place of Anton,” you’ll still need to perform it. Anton will mumble through the oath, but he won’t do it properly. To correct it, you’ll need to repeat the following lines:

  • “We swear before God, that we will open the shafts without malice and mine the vein honestly according to the law of God.”
  • “We vow to work hard, listen to the foreman, and duly hand over the ore.”
  • “We swear to not mine silver on the feast day and give a few Groschen to the church.”

Once you’ve completed the oath, if Anton’s drunkenness led to any mistakes, he’ll blame you for messing things up. Franzi will still thank you for your help, though, and hopes you’ll support them in the upcoming shooting event the next day. With that, the quest is done!

Striped Tonies rewards

With the quest done, you’ll get your hard-earned rewards. Completing the quest will net you 175 Groschen and a map – the Map of Kuttenberg Underground.
