Is Redfall open world? Although a cooperative shoot ’em up entry isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of an open world game, Bethesda have also been known for creating a few, fully explorable FPS installments in their Fallout series.
For this reason, we’ll be taking a look at whether the game features an open world and how its design, layout, and enemy placement works. You can also learn more about Redfall’s availability on PS5 and Game Pass so you know where you’ll be able to play the vampire-themed creation.
Is Redfall an open world game?
Yes, Redfall is an open world game. The developers have often described their FPS entry’s world as being fully explorable and they further confirmed this fact in a recent Q&A conducted through their Discord server.
In it, one fan named Sinnoware asked the following question: “What are Arkane’s thoughts and design choices on blending immersive sim with open world settings in Redfall?” Despite it not being a direct question on the environmental structure, it still confirms the game’s explorable layout as the developers have stated that they “invested heavily” in designing it this way.
Arkane Studios would go on to mention that the enemies you encounter throughout the fictional Massachusetts city won’t always be in the same spot. Each encounter has apparently been designed in a certain way and “injected with flexibility to keep it feeling fresh,” meaning combatant’s movements will be largely unpredictable.
“If you jump into Redfall and approached it like you would an immersive sim, you’re going to find a lot that feels very familiar. There is going to be a lot for you to enjoy,” they continued. Based on these statements, it seems like the game’s grisly and dark world will have plenty of good and bad surprises for all players.
