Games in Early Access usually come with some kinks that need to be ironed out. That is certainly the case with inZOI, which launched with a few bugs and errors that players have to deal with along with other troubles the life sim throws at them. Many of them have been flagged and the devs have been issuing hotfixes since the game appeared on Steam, but some still remain. We’ll go through currently troublesome error codes, bugs, crashes, and more in inZOI and offer a few solutions on how to fix them.

Error codes, bugs, crashes, and other issues in inZOI

Unfortunately, inZOI is troubled by a few problems that you can encounter while playing the game. Some of these errors can’t be fixed yet, but it’s good to be aware of them. After all, the game is still in Early Access, so hopefully, there will be fewer issues as time goes by. These are some of the most common errors and bugs you can encounter:

How to fix inZOI Canvas error code E04

You will often get Error Code E04 when you try uploading a Zoi to Canvas. That can happen with any type of upload – face, garments, or full Zoi. Most often, it’s due to custom items you may have used while designing. However, in some cases, it happens simply because the Canvas servers are unresponsive or offline.

The best way to deal with Error Code E04 is to tinker with your upload first. Try removing any custom items you have used during the creation. This will take some trial and error, but eventually, you’ll be able to upload your design to Canvas. However, if nothing’s working, then the best you can do is wait for the servers to cooperate before uploading your preset. We’ve seen players recommending waiting up to 24 hours before trying again.

How to fix the “DirectX 12 is not supported on your system” error

This error message tends to appear when you launch inZOI for the first time. If you get this error message, there are two likely reasons: either your GPU drivers are out of date or your PC (but mainly GPU) isn’t strong enough to run the game.

Some players have tried getting around this error by using launch commands on Steam to use DX11, but that didn’t work. The best solution is to update your graphics drivers and try launching the game again. If the error persists, it’s very likely that your hardware can’t handle inZOI at its current state.

How to fix “The game may not run due to the device’s limited graphics card performance” notification error

This error message is similar to the one above. However, it’s firmly rooted in your hardware not being strong enough to run the game. There’s not much you can do about this except upgrade your PC or wait for the game to be further optimized. Alternatively, if your internet is good enough, you can use a service like GeForce NOW to stream the game, side-stepping the hardware requirements.

How to fix the “You cannot use this…” bug in inZOI

This bug happens when you try to use an item that has a collision issue with another item or with a nearby Zoi. Instead of working around the problem, your Zoi will cancel the action and you’ll get the message “You cannot use this ‘insert item name’”. This bug can also prevent you from taking pictures in the Photo mode as well.

To fix it, go to the Build Mode, select the problematic item, move it, and then move it back again to its original place. After that, resume playing and the bug should be fixed. Some items need supporting objects to work properly, for example, a computer on a desk needs a chair. In such cases, make sure that the chair is snapped to the desk (for example), once again using the Build Mode. If a Zoi is preventing an item from being used (or you get this error in Photo mode), then swapping to that Zoi, and then back to the original one should clear it.

How to fix the unusable Workbench bug

Unlike the above bug, the Workbench item is extremely buggy and can cause your game to become unplayable. In fact, it causes your Zoi to get fully stuck and blocks you from entering Build Mode to fix it, so it can quite literally bring your game to a halt. There are two possible workarounds. First, you can simply load a save before the Zoi tries using the Workbench. Or, you can use the unstuck cheat to save your Zoi. To do that, click on the Psycat Guide in the lower-right corner of the screen and press the Emergency Rescue button.

How to fix the Zoi animation loop bug

Sometimes Zois can get caught in an animation loop and no matter how many times you cancel the action, they can’t escape it. This bug can happen to both your Zois and NPCs, so keep an eye out while out in the city. To fix this, you have to use the Emergency Rescue option found in Psycat’s Guide.

How to fix the ghosting effect in inZOI

While ghost mode is on the game’s roadmap, this bug has nothing to do with life after death. If you see traces behind your Zois as they move around, then the issue is with your anti-aliasing options. Namely, TAA anti-aliasing can often cause a ghosting effect to appear when characters move around. To get rid of it, head to Options, select Graphics and under Anti-aliasing switch from TAA to TSR. If the bug persists, then also turn off Frame Generation.

How to fix inZOI crash errors

There are any number of reasons for inZOI to crash, given that the game is in Early Access. However, some of the most common causes are related to your virtual memory getting full, or your graphics settings being tuned a bit too high.

If your graphics settings are causing the game to crash, then the fix is simple – lower the graphics settings in Options and try playing again. Again, the game’s optimization is not fully done yet, so what starts out as smooth performance, might not work the best in a few hours of playtime. Check your graphics settings and lower the preset by one notch to see if that helps.

If your virtual memory is causing the game to crash, then there are a few other options you can try. First, turn off any unnecessary background programs that may be hogging the virtual memory. Alternatively, you can try tinkering with your PC’s Page File Settings to increase the availability of virtual memory. To do that, search and open the “sysdm.cpl” file on your PC. Then, head to Advanced > Performance > Settings. Click Change… and untick the box that says “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”. This will let you manually set up your page file size. Select a drive that has lots of free space and click the Custom Size button. Type 16484 on Maximum size and press OK. This will give you more virtual memory to work with and hopefully get rid of crashes in inZOI.
