How to make a lead in Minecraft without slime?Lead – as its name – is an item used to lead passive and hostile mobs in Minecraft. At first, you can’t craft a lead and can only find it by looting chests. Later on, with the 1.6.1 update, you can actually make one! Let’s see how to make a lead in Minecraft!
3 Steps to Make a Lead in Minecraft
#1 Obtain 4 String
A string is a primary item dropped from spiders, cave spiders, striders, and cats. Spiders, cave spiders, and cats drop 0-2 strings on death, while the striders can drop up to 5 strings. With Looting III enchantment, you can get 5 strings for each spider and 8 strings for each strider killed. However, string drop from cats is not affected by this enchantment.
You can get string directly from chests in many generated structures like the dungeons, desert temples, pillager outposts, woodland mansions, and bastion remnants (which is not a recommended place to get string).
Fishing can give you 1 string with a 0.6% chance of each cast. The chance is decreased by 0.1% for each level of the Luck of The Sea enchantment you have on your fishing rod.
Tamed cats are also a good source of string. Whenever you go sleep with your cats around your bed and wake up, the tamed cat will have a 16% chance to give you 1 string.
The piglins in the Nether dimension have a 4.36% chance to give you 3-9 strings for each gold ingot. But beware of the Nether!
Finally, if you see any cobweb lying around, you can break it with your sword or shears to get 1 string. Cobwebs typically spawn around cave spider spawners in the mineshaft structure.
#2 Obtain 1 Slimeball
Slimeball is a renewable green ball in Minecraft that can be obtained mostly through the slime mob. Each baby slime can drop 0-2 slimeballs and up to 5 slimeballs if you have the Looting III enchantment.
If you have a slime block, put it in the crafting grid to get 9 slimeballs.
You can also trade 4 emeralds with the wandering traders for 1 slimeball. Quite expensive!
Alternatively, patiently waiting for the panda to sneeze is another way to get slimeball in Minecraft. They have a 0.14% chance to drop only 1 slimeball when sneezing, and the chance for a panda to sneeze is 0.01%. Happy waiting!
#3 Craft a Lead
Once you have 4 strings and 1 slimeball, right-click on a crafting table and follow the recipe shape below to craft 2 leads.
Other Ways to Obtain a Lead in Minecraft
#1 By Looting Chests
There are only 3 structures that can contain lead in their chests. The ancient city, woodland mansion, and buried treasures (only in Bedrock Edition). If you’re playing on Java Edition, it may not be worth it to get a lead this way since the ancient city and woodland mansion are very dangerous!
#2 By the Wandering Traders
Wandering traders have a normal chance to spawn around the player. They always spawn with 2 leads tied on the trader llamas. You can either kill the wandering trader or transport the llama away to get the lead.
