Wondering how to heal in Final Fantasy 16? Valisthear is crawling with beasties and foes eager to stunt Clive’s progress, so it’s vital to know how to keep our hero in tip-top fighting shape at all times. A big part of this is using healing potions to keep his health bar from depleting.

We’ll walk you through how to heal in Final Fantasy 16. We also recommend learning how to get more potions in Final Fantasy 16 as tougher foes will require more regular health management. For more FF16 basics, learn how to dodge in Final Fantasy 16 and how to save in Final Fantasy 16.

Final Fantasy 16 heal explained

To heal in Final Fantasy 16, follow these steps:

  • Make sure you’ve got the consumables option up in the bottom left-hand of the HUD by tapping left on the d-pad. Doing so cycles between Torgal commands and consumables.
  • By default, you need to tap up on the d-pad to use a potion and heal. Alternatively, you can tap right on the d-pad to use a high potion, which is basically a souped up potion that heals more health.

You can reconfigure the button assignments, by tapping the options button and navigating to the Items tab. Under Shortcuts, you can reassign potions and tonics to different d-pad buttons as you see fit.

Note that you won’t be able to heal when in a ‘safe-zone’ such as The Hideaway or one of the many villages across Valisthea, such as Martha’s Rest, Lostwing, or Northreach. Simply exit the settlement and you’ll see the consumable options pop-up in the bottom-left corner of the HUD.
