Wondering how to dodge in Final Fantasy 16? The decision to pivot to a full on real-time combat system means Final Fantasy 16 is more mechanically demanding than any other game in the series. Though attacking is the biggest part of the puzzle, dodging also plays a crucial role and learning how to avoid enemy attacks is a must-have skill if you’re planning to complete the game.
We’ll outline how to dodge in Final Fantasy 16 with a short primer. Along with combat, Final Fantasy 16 has a large semi-open world and it’s worth learning how to get a chocobo in Final Fantasy 16 to get around faster. Final Fantasy 16 dodge explained
To dodge in Final Fantasy 16, tap R1 just as an enemy attack is about to hit Clive. If done correctly, you’ll not only avoid the attack and any damage but also pull off what’s called a timed, or perfect, dodge, which gives you the opportunity to follow up with a charged attack that deals higher damage.
Though the dodge window is reasonably generous in Final Fantasy 16, it’s easy to get caught up in the fight and miss attacks. Look out for telegraphed weapon swipes and swings, but also magic spells, especially moving orbs, beams, and AOE attacks. Most of these are signaled by clear on screen indicators and colours so shouldn’t be hard to pick up on.
If you’re having trouble nailing the Final Fantasy 16 dodge, you can also equip one of the Final Fantasy 16 Timely Accessories called the Ring of Timely Focus. When equipped, the ring slows time before an evadable enemy attack hits Clive and an R1 prompt appears on screen. Tap R1 before the timer runs out and you’ll dodge the attack automatically.
Now you know how to dodge in Final Fantasy 16, learn how to get more potions in Final Fantasy 16 and how to reset abilities in Final Fantasy 16, both crucial when it comes to staying alive against the many Final Fantasy 16 bosses you’ll come across.
