F1 Manager 2024 can be a pretty daunting game to get into even for the most dedicated of F1 fans. Whether you’re brand-new to the series or someone who played before and is jumping back in, there are all sorts of mechanics, new and old that can be fairly confusing to wrap your head around.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of seven of our best tips and tricks to help you out a bit after our time with the game. We aren’t saying these pointers are going to have you winning all your races straight away, but they’ll certainly put you on the right track to start picking up more points towards your first championship.

Start fast

The AI in F1 Manager has a habit of going a bit full throttle at the start of races, and it’s in your best interest to join them. With everyone so packed together near the start, it’s a good chance for you to climb a few places, or if you’re already out in front, you should be looking to stay ahead. Go aggressive on the tyres and battery for two or three laps and then settle into your regular strategy.

But don’t push too hard

It can be tempting to go pedal to the metal and push your drivers to drive aggressively all race, overtaking whenever they can, taking those risky corners, you get it. But with mechanical failures being added to this year’s game, those risks are serious, and could very easily end up with your race ending early. Don’t be afraid to push your cars to the limit, just do it strategically, not all the time.

Keep an eye on your tyres

Your optimal pit stops are determined by when your tyres need replacing, so you want to get the most out of them before having to stop as possible, so monitor your tyres. If you’ve had a bump and your tyres have taken a drop in condition, look to drive less aggressively for a few laps so you don’t risk a flat before your pit stop. Similarly, if the condition of your tyres is higher than expected, use this opportunity to drive more aggressively and potentially pick up a few places.

Specialise your car and stick to it

You can’t have it all, and you’re not going to be able to design a car that’s the fastest on straights and fastest around corners. Choose one and focus on that. Say for example you’ve got a driver that’s great at cornering. Develop your cars to play to his strengths and you’ll rack up points on circuits with lots of corners. Just remember not to completely neglect the other aspects, putting enough in so that you don’t bomb on tracks with fewer turns.

Better parts mean more wins, meaning more money, meaning better parts. Image captured by VideoGamer

Always be researching

Having a great car is much more important than having a great driver, so you’ll want to constantly be researching new and better technology. If you can regularly improve your car’s aerodynamics and engine power, you’ll creep up the back and stay ahead of the curve. The better you perform, the more money you’ll get, meaning more money into development – it’s a winning cycle!

Try designing multiples of each part

It can seem counterintuitive, as you would think that it’s best to develop a new part and get it manufactured ASAP, but in the long-run, making multiple designs can be much more beneficial. Every time you design a new part, you’ll incur a cost, so if you design one part two separate times, you’ll pay twice. If you design two parts at once, you’ll save money, letting you spend that on research elsewhere. You’ll still get the parts and you’ll be able to do more research overall thanks to the savings.

Use targets to your advantage

The new mentality system gives your drivers and staff a morale bar. High morale means better performances and vice versa, so you want to keep it as high as possible, and the easiest way to do this is with targets. If you’ve got an underperforming driver, give him some easier targets to get him back on track. Conversely, if your driver is overperforming, completing harder targets will boost their morale even more – a simple way to get free morale.
