Shadow of the Erdtree is not just an expansion of Elden Ring as a game, but an expansion of the lore, leaning heavily into certain aspects that the main game didn’t cover to bring a whole new dimension to it. That means there are plenty of references to characters from the main game in addition to all the new ones you meet in the Land of Shadow.
But one character you might be wondering about is Melina, your faithful maiden throughout Elden Ring. Does she feature in Shadow of the Erdtree? And if she does, what kind of role does she play in the game? We’re here to answer your questions so you know exactly what to expect.

Is Melina in Shadow of the Erdtree?
No, Melina does not feature at all in Shadow of the Erdtree. Many players will likely have started the DLC at the point in the game after the Erdtree has been burned, especially if you want to be the recommended level, meaning Melina would not show up at all, just as she doesn’t in the main game.
But if you were thinking of starting up a NG+ playthrough and starting the DLC before this happens, don’t bother. Even with Melina still present in your Elden Ring world, she will not show up at all during the events of Shadow of the Erdtree.
That being said, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing at all do with Melina in the DLC. We won’t spoil it for you, but there are a few pieces of lore you’ll come across in the Land of Shadow that tell you more about Melina, it’s just a shame she can’t follow you there to react to it herself.
In fact, the events of Shadow of the Erdtree will not have any impact on your relationships with all the characters in the base game, so you won’t be able to chat with the likes of Gideon about events in the Land of Shadow. For all intents and purposes, they are completely separate games in this regard.
