Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - How To Increase Your FrontierNav Miranium

In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, there are two primary forms of currency - Miranium, and Credits. Credits are your standard form of money, used to buy things from shops, and is what you get when you see your supplies. Miranium is a raw resource mined from Mira, and is used in all forms of crafting and refueling for Skells.

Is that thunder I hear?
PostsAnd being a raw resource of Mira, it needs to be mined with FrontierNav. FrontierNav is the only source of Miranium, so you'll want to invest in it if you want the best endgame content there is. Here's how to mixamise your gains and have enough Miranium to swim in.
What Increases Your Miranium Income?
While you can Credits in a large variety of ways, such as selling gear and completing missions, Miranium has just a single source, and that's FrontierNet. Any time you discover a FrontierNav Site, a default Data Probe is placed, which gives you a small amount of Miranium and Revenue. But we're looking for more Miranium here.
To do so, you'll want to place down Mining Probes around the planet. You have quite a large number of Mining Probes as well, stretching from ranks G1-G10, and plenty of each of them, too. You are spoiled for choice here, which means you should rely on making as many powerful and lengthy chains as you can.
A major caveat with Miranium income is that even though you can make it exceed your Storage Limit, there is no benefit to this. Any excess Miranium is simply discarded once you reach the limit. As such, your Miranium income should be made to be roughly equivalent to your Storage Limit, or slightly below it. You don't want any work to go to waste.
If your Storage Limit becomes smaller than you currently stored Miranium, you will keep what remains until it is spent, at which point it will only fill up to the limit of your storage again.
Every FN Site has a letter grading as well that acts as a multiplier to each probe's base income rate. Keep this in mind so that you are placing more powerful probes along lower-grade areas. They can still make a respectable income here where lower rank Mining Probes can still be boosted dramatically on higher grade sites.
Recommended Layout For Maximum Miranium Income
CloseEven though you have quite a few Mining Probes at your disposal, you should still place them as efficiently as possible to give you room for Research Probes. There's no benefit to excess here. That's where Duplicator and Booster Probes come into play. They can hike up your numbers without even needing a massive number of probes to be deployed.
However, we also need to consider that Storage Probes must be placed, essentially doubling up the number of probes we must place. So let's get started.
It is best to have the entire FrontierNav network established before starting to build your ideal layout so you can build long chains with your probes.
Storage Probe Placement
For Storage Probes, you'll want to get them out of the way as soon as possible. These only come in a single grade, and will always give you a base +6,000 to your Storage Limit. As such, you should try to build them as one massive chain so that they all boost each other, and then connect them to a Duplicator or Booster to push that Storage Limit as high as possible.
The best place to do this is through Oblivia. Start at FN Site 315 by placing a Duplicator Probe, and then put a Booster Probe II just north of it in FN Site 316. Starting then from FN Site 312, start chaining all the way back to FN Site 118 in the eastern edge of Primordia. Fill out any diverging paths that have less than three FN Sites as well, since these will be too short to form chains with other probes.
This should get you somewhere near 100,000 Storage Limit, and potentially higher if you have more Storage Probes to place in other areas. This will determine the maximum limit you should build your Miranium income to, and whatever spots are left over can be used for Research and Combat Probes.
Mining Probes - Cauldros
Let's get our start up in Cauldros, which is easily the most lucrative region in terms of both Miranium and Revenue. Place a Duplicator Probe in FN Site 508, and a Booster Probe in FN Site 507. North of the Duplicator, you should build a five-chain of Mining Probes, while to the west you should start building out an even longer chain that stretches into Sylvalum.
This chain of Mining Probes should have a minimum of nine probes in it, and ideally more to fill the gaps along the way, so try to use the highest grade Mining Probe you have that can fill this requirement.
Mining Probes - Sylvalum
In Sylvalum, place a Duplicator Probe at FN Site 408, and a Booster Probe to the north of it at FN Site 406. Your chain of Mining Probes should meet with this Duplicator Probe at FN Site 402. Beginning at FN Site 413, start building a new chain to fill the sites ahead. This will require fix Mining Probes, which you should have in Mining Probe IX. If not, choose the next highest you have.
At FN Site 405, you can make another chain of five before heading down to Primordia. Fill these out now with your next highest grade Mining Probe.
Mining Probes - Primordia
With Cauldros and Sylvalum self-contained, we are effectively starting anew in Primordia. Start by placing a Duplicator Probe in FN Site 117 to meet with the Storage Probes from Oblivia, and then place a Booster Probe at FN Site 120.
From here, we want to paint Primordia with even more massive chains. Start by placing your next Mining Probe at FN Site 116, and starting building all the way to FN Site 102. This will require at least 10 Mining Probes, so pick whichever are the most plentiful at the moment. If you don't have enough, build a long enough chain to FN Site 107, and then a three-chain of probes along FN Sites 106, 104, and 102.
Fill out the remaining gaps as you wish, or leave them blank for now if you wish to fill them with Research Probes or Combat Probes later.
Mining Probes - Noctilum
The last full region we have is Noctilum. To begin, place a Duplicator and Booster Probe in FN Sites 216 and 225 respectively. This may cut short some chains you were building from FN Site 220 and below, but is worth it for the Miranium boost.
You can now build a five-chain of Mining Probes along FN Sites 214 to 223, and continue building further northwards as you wish. By this point, you may have already hit your Storage Limit, so feel free to slow down if so and start placing other probes.
Mining Probes - Oblivia
Finally, we have Oblivia. The majority of this will already have been filled with Storage Probes. FN Site 304 can be built into two separate chains of three, or a single chain of six. For the most part, this is free space to do with as you want as you should already be hitting the Storage Limit.
Remember that all probes can be swapped and changed as you want if you can figure out a way to eke out even more Miranium and Storage.
