Summary
- Xbox fans are getting frustrated with home screen ads, with one full screen ad causing a stir.
- Unlike PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, the Xbox sticks its adverts on the home screen, often promoting new games and events.
- However, users have recently been rankled by a full-screen ad for the Xbox Showcase upon starting their console.
Xbox fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with their platform of choice, as there are claims the console's home screen is bombarding them with ads.
When it comes to console UI and home screens, I don't think it's unfair to say that Xbox is the worst of the big three. PlayStation and Nintendo have managed to keep things quite minimalist with the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, and while the Xbox home screen isn't bad, it's definitely more visually cluttered. There's not much Xbox can do about it now without drastically altering things, but it probably could improve the user experience somewhat by going easy on the adverts.

This year's showcase was fantastic, but it also brushed over some important issues.
Posts 1Unlike PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, the adverts on Xbox are slapped right on the home screen, whether it be for the console's own exclusives, games coming to Xbox Game Pass, or upcoming events like Summer Game Fest. It's something that's been rankling Xbox fans for quite some time, but it seems a bunch have now snapped due to a new full-screen ad that users are getting following the Xbox Game Showcase last week.
Xbox Users Are Getting Sick Of Full-Screen Ads
Reddit user VeryVideoGame shared the advert in question that they were greeted with upon booting up their Xbox, which is there to remind people about the game's coming to Game Pass, pre-order them if they're interested, and to watch the recent Xbox Game Showcase and Call of Duty Direct if they missed them. Unlike the home screen ads, this fills the entire screen and has to be clicked off before moving on.
It's not exactly the most offensive thing in the world, but it must be frustrating to be met with an advert for something just for turning on your console. Other Reddit users have taken this opportunity to vent their frustration about Xbox's advertising practices as a whole, with user Knives766 fed up with the company "spamming the home screen with garbage."
User Dog_Apoc points out that while PlayStation also has adverts on its home screen, they're much less intrusive, and one user even admits to keeping their Xbox offline to avoid them, occasionally reconnecting to download updates or play online games. It's clearly something that's bugging users quite a bit, though if Microsoft's other products are anything to go by, I wouldn't expect the issue to get any better any time soon.
