Professional wrestling is no stranger to celebrity crossovers. In the past, the likes of Muhhamd Ali, Mike Tyson, Johnny Knoxville and Snoop Dogg have stepped into the squared circle. Heck, the NBA's Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone had an actual wrestling match against each other. In many ways, professional wrestling has and always will be intrinsically linked with pop culture, whether that's through fandom, collaborations or a combination of both.
Recently, both the Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton and the New York Knicks' Jalen Brunson made headlines, when, on last week's taping of SmackDown from Madison Square Garden in New York, the two NBA rivals stared each other down in the ring. The heated on-court rivals each had a weapon in hand, as well as support from a wrestler -- Haliburton and Logan Paul, Brunson and LA Knight. The New York crowd absolutely fell in love with the segment, and while there is not currently a match in place between the two, reportedly their involvement with WWE is not finished.
A Collaboration Between Haliburton and WWE 2K24 Could Be On The Way
While there's no planned real-life match between Haliburton and Brunson, that doesn't mean there can't be a virtual one. Already, creative WWE 2K24 fans have created Haliburton in this year's video game. The Haliburton create-a-character sports his look from last week's SmackDown, complete with his unique "Tyrese 3:17" t-shirt, a riff on Steve Austin's iconic 3:16 shirt.
Having seen the fan's creation, Haliburton took to Twitter to ask WWE2K if there was any chance he could be DLC. It turns out, that 2K is thinking along the same lines.
While it may be too late for this year's game, WWE 2K24, to include Haliburton as the annual season pass has already been revealed in full. That said, when it comes to collaborations, never say never. Just recently, it was datamined that Call of Duty will reportedly be getting a Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration of some sort, which probably didn't seem possible just a few months back.
More so, the 2K series is no stranger to having celebrities in its games. That's because famous artist Post Malone was just released as a DLC character, and ESPN personality Pat McAfee and his friends will be in a future DLC pack. Now, if Haliburton, and potentially Brunson make their way into the WWE games at some point, then could there be a reality where a WWE character appears in NBA 2K? Hooping as The Undertaker and The Rock against the Celtics would be a pretty fun treat. Here's hoping.
