Lifetime sales in the Tomb Raider series have surpassed 100 million. This is across the entire series, so every game in every era, and comes right as Crystal Dynamics reveals what's next for Lara.
This announcement comes off the back of the release of the Netflix series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and the announcement of Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered. After announcing the remaster collection, Crystal Dynamics revealed that the series recently reached this huge milestone, 28 years after the first game's launch.
Lifetime Tomb Raider Game Sales Surpass 100 Million
"We’re so honored to share a huge milestone for Tomb Raider – we have officially reached over 100 million games sold across the franchise," reads a blog post. "This is a momentous accomplishment that few video game franchises ever achieve. We owe our thanks to you, the fans, as well as to all the passionate developers and artists whose talent and imagination have given us so many stories and experiences to share together for nearly three decades.
"We’re extremely grateful for the Tomb Raider community’s collective spirit of adventure, and we look forward to all the journeys still to come as Lara Croft and Tomb Raider continue to reach new heights."
This milestone comes as the series finally begins to heat up again, after years on hiatus. Earlier this year, we got the first remaster trilogy, Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. This largely went down well with fans, so it's no surprise to hear that another is on the way.
As for a brand new game, it seems that this is still a while off. The closest we got to news on this was Crystal Dynamics revealing a new look for Lara, which combines her appearances across the different eras. Still, this was said to be just a "vision" of what she could look like, so it's possible that even that hasn't been nailed down yet. We did get some leaked plot details in 2022, but we're still waiting to hear anything official.
