Fishing Skill Overview
One of the many base game skills in The Sims 4, the Fishing skill offers your Sim a productive way to spend time out in nature.
With 52 total fish to catch, between the base game and all The Sims 4 expansions or game packs, your Sim has their casting work cut out for them!
To fish in The Sims 4, you'll simply need to head to any of the designated fishing spots, of which there are dozens across the various worlds, and click the fishing sign to go fishing.
While they don't need to, Sims that have reached level three of the Fishing skill unlock the ability to Fish with Bait.
Using bait when fishing is a good way to catch more fish quickly. Additionally, it's also how you attract certain types of rarer fish.
Types of baits include wild plants, gardening yields, or even other fish, so try out different things in different fishing spots to see what you can find.
Helpful Traits And Aspirations
Since there's so much time spent outdoors when you're building the Fishing skill in The Sims 4, you'd do well to give your Sim the Loves Outdoors trait.
This allows them to gain positive moodlets when spending an excessive number of hours outside, which is helpful when they're out fishing!
And when it comes to aspirations, the Angling Ace aspiration is a great choice for those most passionate about fishing.
Not only will you receive a wealth of Satisfaction Points while fishing yourself, but you'll also receive the Angler's Tranquility trait as a reward.
This perk is reserved only for master anglers and allows them to remove negative moodlets by fishing.
Island Living Fishing Abilities
With Sulani being a sunny island chain in The Sims 4: Island Living, it's no surprise you've got a bevy of unique fishing options when playing with the pack installed.
Available in the Outdoor Activities section of Build/Buy, Fish Traps are idle ways to build the Fishing skill and will catch fish in roughly two days.
You can place these traps at different water depths to attract different fish, and you can place up to six Fish Traps at a time after maxing the Fishing skill.
If you'd rather venture out further, though, you can buy a canoe in the Outdoor Activities section as well, which allows you to fish in shallow or deep water around Sulani.
Just be mindful, though, as you may catch endangered species of fish, which results in a prompt asking if you'd like to keep the fish or toss it back.
You can keep the fish to mount or sell, but beware that any relationships with nearby Sims decrease - you're keeping an endangered fish, after all!
Finally, Mermaid Sims can use their ability, Aquatic Lure, to summon plenty of fish to a fishing spot for the next few hours.
When fishing after an Aquatic Lure has been cast on a fishing spot, you can catch fish up to two levels higher than your skill level.
