Glazes aren’t just for donuts anymore - these glazes can change the appearance and aesthetic of a pottery project, allowing it to be used in any situation. Put down those donuts and pick up some clay: these are all the glazes from The Sims 4: Businesses and Hobbies, ranked.

10 Shiny

Oh, How Very

The Shiny glaze may be simple, but something being simple is by no means a bad thing. This glaze makes any piece of pottery turn a sharp, shining white.

It's ideal for pieces used for basic needs, such as a simple tea set or a candle lantern. While it's not as flashy as the other glazes, this glaze makes pieces look finished, and it lends a subtle sense of elegance.

9 Matte

Back In Matte

The Matte glaze is another simple glaze, but it adds a sense of elevation to any project. While finishing any craft is an achievement in itself, making it look polished adds something - and the Matte glaze certainly makes things look finished.

This glaze is a flat, gentle yellow that would look lovely as a pop of color in any room. Instead of buying something bright, your Sims can now make it with the Matte glaze. It would especially look lovely alongside the Kintsugi feature, which is the mending of pottery with gold to improve it.

8 Contemporary

Among Its Peers

This glaze is dripping in style. The Contemporary glaze features a green base with white paint dripping down around it. This controlled drip allows for a stylish finish that adds drama and motion to a piece. While you might not think about it, the eye does follow brush strokes in pieces of art.

The Contemporary glaze draws the eye down as you look at it, allowing Sims to soak in what they’re seeing. This is a really clever glaze, and it’ll be sure to stick in the mind of whoever sees it.

7 Minimalist

Less Is More

Sick off all that pretentious art talk? Too bad: it’s time for the Minimalist art glaze. Despite its name, the Minimalist glaze has some of the busiest styles of the glazes. The glaze paints the pottery a dark grey while lines of white are drawn across the pottery.

The effect is of a pot in motion, and it brings to mind wind or storms. The Minimalist pot says a lot with little, much like the style of art it was named after.

6 Modern

A Modern Major Pottery

Orange is a great color to choose for any pot as it mimics the natural orange color of most clay. This is clearest in the Modern glaze. This glaze is made up of a band of orange around the base, a white band on top, and speckles of grey among the white.

The effect is adorable, as it looks like the pottery is made up of polka dots. It brings to mind marble, or the speckling in a sprinkle cake. Whatever you picture when you look at the Modern glaze, it’s sure to make you smile - just like the glaze itself.

5 Rustic

Back To Basics

This glaze is perfect for the products that you want to keep looking a little rugged. Dare we say, even a little rustic. Pots with this glaze look like long buried Roman pottery, making it an ideal choice for more historic saves or styles.

This glaze keeps the natural flaws of the pot, which is of course part of the appeal of each piece. There is beauty in imperfection, and the Rustic glaze embraces that.

4 Industrial

Wild And Windy

This is the most tactile of all the glazes. The Industrial glaze adds subtle bands of clay around the pottery, adding little raised sections that look like lines from a distance. This gives the projects an interesting texture, and it makes them stand out from unfinished products.

Pottery with the Industrial glaze just makes you want to reach in and run your hands over it, just to see what it feels like. It adds dimension to projects, and provides immersion for players.

3 Blush

A Blushing Beauty

The Blush glaze lives up to its name. This glaze is a pale, gentle pink that fades perfectly into a cloudy white. This glaze makes each pot look like it is part of a dreamy sunset. This glaze would be perfect for any pottery that is going into a nursery, or perhaps in a princess-style child’s room.

Whatever it is used for, the Blush glaze adds a bit of gentle polish to whatever project your Sim is working on.

2 Retro

That's Totally Retro

Is there any color combination that’s better than blue and orange? The Retro glaze certainly doesn’t think so. This glaze is profoundly simple, as it is only two bands of color, but both are so striking that they elevate a simple piece into something lovely.

It brings to mind the bold, vintage colors of the 1950s and the interesting pieces of pottery that came out of that era. It’s a total throwback. In fact, there’s only one glaze that’s even more retro than the Retro glaze.

1 Vintage

Even More Retro

If there’s ever been a glaze that invokes thoughts of jello dishes and shag carpeting, it is the Vintage glaze. This glaze just screams out ‘70s’, from the layers of orange to the spots of yellow mixed in with white.

Orange, white, and yellow are an excellent combination, and each sets off each other nicely. If you’re looking for a glaze that can make any piece feel like it came from your aunt’s house, the Vintage glaze is for you.
