You won't get far in The Sims 2 without money, and Simoleons are earned through hard work. Thankfully, there are various careers you can work in to climb the corporate ladder and make a living wage to support your family. But which job should you choose, and how do you even get the job?

How To Get A Job
To get a job in The Sims 2, you'll need to read through the newspaper or use a computer to search for a job. There are only a few listing available per day, so if you can't find your dream job, you'll need to make do until then.
In the newspaper, which is delivered daily, there are only three listings. If you check the computer, you'll find five listings total. Make sure to check both to ensure you have the best chance of finding your Sim's dream gig.
The computer often has the same three listings as the newspaper.
When your Sim goes to work, they'll get paid upon their return. A car will come to get them when it's time to work and it will bring them back, though you can choose to walk to work as well.
Not showing up to work can result in getting fired!
How To Get A Job By Networking
While talking with other Sims and making friends, you might encounter networking opportunities. These are unique interactions that offer your Sim access to higher level jobs without having to work your way up the ladder.
You can't force these encounters, but when you speak with your neighbors and friends, you may be offered a job on the spot. Stay social and you can save yourself a lot of effort! What Sim wouldn't want a high-paying job they aren't qualified for?
How To Get Promoted
Check the job menu to see what your specific promotion requirements are. You can see what skills need to be upgraded along with how many friends your Sim needs to have to make their way up the corporate ladder.
There are also work opportunities throughout the day that can speed up your promotions, but they can also get you fired. For this reason, it's best to save before your Sim goes to work each day in case these rare occurrences happen.

There are a plethora of careers for your Sim to pursue, and each career has ten levels in it. Adult Sims have the most variety for work, but teens and elders can also enter the workforce.
