There are all manner of distasteful and disgusting occurrences in Novigrad's streets during your visit in The Witcher 3. You can expect to find racists, criminals, and other degenerates harassing the population as you search for Ciri, with many encounters giving you a chance to intervene and do whatever good you can. If you are so inclined, of course.

Of all of these encounters, Strumpet In Distress won't end the way that you expect. It brings an amusing twist to the formula, replacing moral quandaries and the likely futility of Geralt's actions with a surprising rebuke of his well-meaning ways.
Where To Find Strumpet In Distress
You can find this encounter near Novigrad's docks, just south of the Novigrad Docks Fast Travel point. You should be able to spot an armored man confronting a woman, threatening her with violence in an attempt to coerce her.
Once you've finished this quest, you can look for Warehouse of Woe, another short story in the area.
Geralt will step in when you get close enough, automatically starting a conversation where he attempts to resolve the situation.
Which Choice To Make In Strumpet In Distress
When Geralt intervenes, you have to choose one of four options to deal with the man. They range from threatening him with violence to casting Axii on him. Don't think too hard.
Choosing anything other than "I'm done here", will have the same outcome. That choice will have Geralt leave without a fuss.
It's best to cast Axii if you have Delusion at level one. At the very least, you'll earn an experience point reward for using the sign. Alternatively, selecting the third option, "Want me to get rid of him" will provide a smaller experience point reward.
The strumpet will angrily snap at Geralt, revealing that she was not in distress and was simply engaging in roleplay with her partner, who has become too frightened to continue.
She'll, understandably, be furious and leave the area. The quest ends here, mercifully without another encounter with the pair.
