That's Not My Neighbor: How To Play The Killer Clown's Card Game

As if catching Doppelgangers in That's Not My Neighbor's Nightmare Mode wasn't difficult enough, you now have to win the Killer Clown's card game to escape the Doorman's Nightmare. While card games are usually all good fun, this one has a catch. Lose the Killer Clown's card game and you'll lose your head, too.

PostsThe card game itself functions on simple rules, but the catch is that the rules will only be explained once. So, if you forget the rules, or you're confused, you won't be given a refresher. Worse, the game is mostly luck of the draw, so if you pull a bad hand, you're sure to lose.
How To Start The Game
The good news is that you can play the Killer Clown's card game at the end of every round of Nightmare Mode. The bad news is that you can only start the game once you have successfully cleared all Doppelgangers and let in the Neighbors.
To meet the Killer Clown, you have to wait until you've completed the Nightmare. This means that you cannot play the game if you are murdered by a Doppelganger or if you lose or are killed for any other reason.
At the end of the round, the Killer Clown will come up to your window like any other Neighbor would. He will then ask you if you want to play a game. You can choose either yes or no. There is no real penalty to choosing either answer, but you can only begin the card game by selecting 'Yes.'
You won't get killed for selecting 'No' and refusing the game. Nor will you be penalized for calling the D.D.D on the Killer Clown.
Killer Clown's Card Game Rules
The rules of the Killer Clown's card game are fairly simple, but if you aren't paying attention to his initial explanation, the nuances of these simple rules are easy to miss.
The Killer Clown will only explain the rules of the card game once.
The goal of the game is to be the first one to completely run out of cards, kind of like in the card game, Uno. Both you and the Killer Clown start with the same amount of cards, which, if no one ends up drawing any cards at any point, means that the first person to place a card is most likely to win the game.
At the beginning of the game, there is a single card on the table. This is the card you need to match a card to.
You will alternate who places the first card each round. You can only play a card that is equal to or higher than the value of the card on the table, or to the last card played, and you can only place one card each turn.
You can only play one card game per Nightmare Mode round. There are no rematches.
So, if the card on the table is a six, you must place a six or higher. You may also choose to play a wildcard. A wildcard is the Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K), or Ace (A) card. These cards can always be played, but any card can be played on top of them. Think of them like a 'choose a new color' card in Uno.
If you do not have a card of equal or greater value or a wildcard to play, you must draw a card from the deck. You must draw until you pull a card that you can use. If you do not draw any cards that are usable, the draw will stop once your hand has reached six cards total. You can never have more than six cards.
There are bonus cards that the Killer Clown does not tell you about. These cards can make your opponent draw extra cards to increase the size of their hand. Use these strategically! They can also be played against you.
The first player to win two rounds wins the game. Your score will be shown on the right-hand side of the screen in a 0 - 0 format. The left side of the hyphen is your score and the right side is the Killer Clown's score.
If you lose the game, the Killer Clown will break the glass and murder you, resulting in the overall loss of the Nightmare Mode game. If you win, the clown will become upset, but will not retaliate, as you won fair and square. He'll sulk for a little bit before running off.
You can choose to call the D.D.D. on the Killer Clown at any point when the phone is on the table.
Tips For Winning The Killer Clown's Card Game
Since the Killer Clown's card game is mostly luck of the draw, there isn't much you can do beyond getting a good hand at the beginning of the game. However, as you play, there are a few strategic ways that you can force the Killer Clown to increase the size of his hand.
The best way to potentially force the Killer Clown to draw more cards is to play a bonus card. These cards will have a plus sign on them, followed by a number. When played, they force the opposite player to draw that number of cards.
For instance, if you play a +1, the Killer Clown must draw one card before playing one.
Another way to give yourself a chance at forcing the Killer Clown to draw is after he plays a wildcard. You can do one of two things, depending on your play style, after the Killer Clown plays a Wild Card.
The first thing you can do is play your lowest card. This is advisable in the beginning turns of the game. By playing your lowest card, you give yourself better odds of beating future cards.
The second thing you can do is play a high-value card. Playing a high card makes it more difficult for the Killer Clown to counter it and makes it more likely for him to have to draw a card. This method is advisable at the later stages of the game.
Neither method comes with any guarantee of winning, but both do have their benefits.
How To Pass The Killer Clown's Game Without Playing
If you don't trust your luck, or you don't want to play the Killer Clown's game at the end of Nightmare Mode, you can say 'no' to the Killer Clown's offer of a game.
If you say no to the Killer Clown, he will stand dejectedly in the window and not leave. To get him to leave, you can either open the door for him (not advisable) or call the D.D.D. on him.
You can call the D.D.D. on the Killer Clown so long as you have a phone to call them with. If you call the D.D.D. on the Killer Clown, you will get one of the most interesting Doppelganger interactions in the game.
Once the window visor gets pulled up and the cleaning is completed, you'll see the Killer Clown holding the severed head of a D.D.D. agent. However gruesome the scene before you is, you won't get murdered by the clown. He got all his murderous rage out on the D.D.D. agents. The Killer Clown will then leave, and the game will be over.
The only guaranteed ways to survive the Killer Clown are saying no to him or calling the D.D.D. on him.
There is no guarantee that you can win his card game.
