Texas Chain Saw Massacre Dev Doesn't Rule Out Game Pass Return

Summary
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game was a major success, due in part to its day-one release on Game Pass.
- Unfortunately, the game will soon be exiting Game Pass, but Gun Media's CEO didn't rule out a return to the susbcription service.
- In the past, the Yakuza titles left Game Pass and eventually returned, so perhaps the game will reappear down the line.
If you're feeling bummed out about Gun Media's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game exiting Game Pass next week on August 15, then know that the studio isn't ruling out a return to the video game subscription service. In a statement provided to GameSpot, Wes Keltner, the CEO, designer, and director at Gun Media, thanked players, as well as Microsoft for helping make the game a success. He also hinted at a potential return down the line.

PostsFor the uninitiated, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a survival horror video game based off the movie of the same name. It takes inspiration from the likes of Dead by Daylight, with an asymmetrical gameplay style that invites players to step into the role of a survivor or killer. Back in 2023, our James Troughton gave it a 4/5 in their review, praising the thrill of survival.
It was a resounding success via its day-one Game Pass release, with the game topping over four million players in its first month alone. It's that level of polish, plus popularity that makes the game leaving Game Pass a tough pill to swallow for fans.
Game Pass Is Part Of Why The Game Was A Success
In the statement, Keltner noted how "Game Pass is a great program, especially for small teams like ours that are trying to push relatively new genres forward." Additionally, he opined that the program removes barriers of entry for players, allowing them to experience a variety of games, some of which "they may otherwise never touch."
Indeed, Game Pass, for all its warts and criticisms, has allowed subscribers to try a litany of games beyond first-party drops. Some of those fans have stuck around past a title leaving Game Pass, and that's exactly what Gun Media is hoping for, with Keltner writing, "We'll see a lot of Game Pass players convert to paid--especially since they get a discount from Xbox to do so. That's a pretty cool deal if you ask me."
As for a potential return to the program, this is what he had to say:
"We’ve enjoyed our time within the Game Pass ecosystem and who knows, maybe we’ll enter back into it again in the future. Being one of the most popular games in Game Pass this last year and winning the Xbox Excellence Award is usually a good sign that a game will not only return to that program, but also has a strong future full of new content and experiences. Bloody, gory, fun experiences. See you in Texas."
In other words, it's not a "No," but more on the lines of "See you later." It wouldn't be the first time a game returned to Game Pass, as three Yakuza games previously left the service only to return several months later. It's incredibly rare, but it has happened, and perhaps The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be next.
