Square Enix Knows It Has A Problem With Announcing New Games Too Early
Don't worry Kingdom Hearts fans, Square Enix is aware that it has a habit of revealing games way too early and is actively "revisiting" its approach to announcements and marketing.
If there's one thing that Kingdom Hearts fans have gotten used to over the past decade or so, it's waiting. Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced all the way back in 2013 and didn't end up releasing until six years later in 2019. Now, history is repeating itself, with Kingdom Hearts 4 already four years past its initial reveal in 2022 and having only received a whopping two trailers.
Of course, this isn't just an issue with Kingdom Hearts, as Square Enix has gotten into a pretty nasty habit of revealing new games in its major franchises far too early. Both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are also no strangers to long waits for new entries, but at least it looks like Square Enix has finally realised it has a problem.
Thank God, Square Enix Knows It Announces Games Far Too Early
Let's Hope Kingdom Hearts 4 Isn't Too Far Off Now It's Received A New Trailer
Square Enix recently shared a transcript of its annual shareholders' meeting, which included some interesting responses about game preservation and a dodged question about Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams' development troubles. As pointed out by Twitter user Stealth40k, Square also received a question about its lengthy development cycles and early reveals.

I'm not coping, I'm just getting a new high score.

OsikThe questioner pointed out the "long window" between the announcement and release of mainline titles for Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, which they correctly suggested "causes consumer enthusiasm to cool". After being asked to establish "clearer timelines", Square Enix admitted that it's an "issue" and a "challenge".
Call me biased, but Kingdom Hearts is easily the most infamous example of long Square Enix waits, so I'm surprised it wasn't included in the question.
That being said, Square has a plan, as it's currently "revisiting" its approach to announcements and marketing, before pointing out that its announcement of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World won't be far from its launch. Square Enix notes that it's "vital" to improve its marketing to make sure that it sustains player interest.
Clearly, Square knows that it can't keep announcing games too early and then having nothing to show for years on end like it previously did for Kingdom Hearts 4 and Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams. On the bright side, though, the fact that both games recently got new trailers does suggest that they might not be that far off, if Square is sticking to its goal of not leaving fans waiting too long.
