However, sometimes things may not go as planned for your crew, leading to a disaster scenario that could potentially sink your ship. Therefore, repairing your ship is crucial to avoid ending up at the bottom of the sea. Let's take a look at how you can repair your ship to prevent being caught off guard by the surprises of the sea and your enemies!

What Happens When Your Ship Sinks?

When embarking on a sea voyage, it is essential to keep an eye on your ship's condition. You can check your ship's health by looking at the white bar located at the bottom left of the screen after setting sail. Additionally, you can view your ship's stats and the white health bar at the top left while in the Logbook or Settings screen.

Sinking in the game may occur due to attacks by other players or formidable enemy vessels. Upon sinking, you will encounter the 'Voyage Ended' screen and have two options.

Your first option is to respawn in the safe waters near the dock by paying a certain amount of Silver. The second option is to return to the dock, which is free of charge.

If you don't make a selection on the "Voyage Ended" screen, you'll automatically return to the dock after a certain period.

After your ship sinks, a quarter of its health bar will turn red, indicating that you have lost a portion of your maximum ship health. If you continue sailing without repairing your ship, you will lose more than a quarter of your ship's maximum health.

If three-quarters of your ship's maximum health bar becomes red and closed, the 'Respawn at Sea' option won't appear when your ship sinks again. Therefore, each time you set sail, you'll start with a quarter of your maximum health.

Back at the port, you can set sail with your ship again. However, since you haven't repaired it, three-quarters of your ship's maximum health bar will remain locked each time you embark on a journey.

Retrieve Your Loot After Sinking

When your ship sinks, it doesn't just result in the loss of a portion of your maximum health bar; some of the loot in your cargo drops at the location where you sank. It's advantageous to act quickly in this situation because there's a possibility that other players may take your loot.

To retrieve your loot, open your map and look for a yellow ship icon labeled 'Your Shipwreck.' Return to this location to reclaim the loot if unclaimed.

How To Repair Your Ship's Maximum Health Before You Set Sail

Before setting sail on your ship, if you want to regain the lost and locked sections of your maximum health bar, select the 'Repair' option from the menu and pay a small amount of Silver. This will easily restore your maximum health bar to its former state.

Invest in ship upgrades that boost your defenses and resilience. Consider hull reinforcements, improved sails for maneuverability, and tougher armor to withstand enemy attacks. This can help minimize damage before repairs become necessary.

How To Repair Your Ship At Sea Using Repair Kits

If you're out at sea and have been attacking other ships, chances are they'll retaliate, causing damage to your ship's health bar. In such a situation, you can use the Repair Kits you have from the Item Wheel menu to repair your ship.

Using Repair Kits at sea will not replenish lost maximum health bars. Remember, if you want to restore your ship's maximum health bar, you need to repair your ship before setting sail.

Additionally, if Repair Kits are not available on your Item Wheel, you must edit one of the slots to include a Repair Kit. This way, you can quickly use a Repair Kit from the Item Wheel during challenging situations.

Remember that you cannot use Repair Kits back to back. After each use, there will be a 45-second cooldown.

Always carry ample Repair Kits and materials for crafting them. Utilize resource nodes on your travels, trade with merchants, and visit settlements to stock up before venturing out. Remember, resource scarcity at sea can be disastrous.

What Are Other Methods To Repair Your Ship?

In the game, certain types of weapons that you can attach to your ship allow you to target your allies and heal them by firing at them. For example, while the Repair Bombard is a weapon that can heal all allies in its area, the Repair Long Gun enables you to heal your allies from a long distance. You can buy those weapons from Blacksmith.

When purchasing weapons, opt for those with the 'Repair' perk to directly heal your allies. Remember, weapons with the Repair perk focus on healing instead of dealing damage.

In addition to these methods, purchasing certain furniture items from the Carpenter can help you repair your ship more efficiently. Here are some furniture items you can purchase to make your ship sturdier:
