Silent Hill 2: Where To Find Every Glimpse Of The Past

While few may have expected it, Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake has been quite well received. It tends to be a faithful remake in most regards, though adds some of its own additions in certain areas. One such addition are collectibles, which come in two types - Strange Photos, and Glimpses of the Past.

Silent Hill 2: Where To Find Every Strange Photo

If you are looking to find every last one of the Strange Photos in Silent Hill 2, then you have come to the right place.

While the Strange Photos can be tracked through your inventory, the Glimpses of the Past are a blink-and-you'll-miss-it type of deal, where you see them once and can never interact with them again. They can be pretty obscure in some regards too, so we're here to help you track down each and every one of them.

What Are Glimpses Of The Past?

So what exactly are these Glimpses of the Past, you might be asking. The name itself isn't actually said in the game but rather in the related trophy for it, which is hidden by default. Since you can't track them either, there's no real way of knowing you've seen it other than just remembering. Just like a fleeting memory.

You could also take a screenshot each time you see one to remind yourself of just how many you've gotten.

There are 26 Glimpses to find in total, the same number as the Strange Photos. They are purely a collectible, a small reminder of the original game. Each recreates a camera angle from the original Silent Hill 2, or references a puzzle from it. Otherwise, they are just for fun and the related trophy.

Eastern South Vale Glimpses Of The Past

There are five Glimpses of the Past to be found in Eastern South Vale, tied with Brookhaven Hospital for the most Glimpses in a single area.

Glimpse 1

This Glimpse can be found just before you make the turn into Silent Hill after the ranch, and can be found by the entrance of the closed-off tunnel.

Glimpse 2

This Glimpse is found just after entering Silent Hill and collecting the map. It is found by the closed fence on Vaehss Street.

Glimpse 3

This Glimpse can be found right outside the house where you fight your first monster and get the radio and wooden board. It's by the bloody fence.

Glimpse 4

This Glimpse can be found in South Vale proper, on the Western end of Katz Street by the Wood Side Apartments. Examine the giant draped scaffolding to see it.

Glimpse 5

This Glimpse is found by the entrance of the Wood Side Apartments, to the right. Interact the the trash to see it.

Wood Side Apartments Glimpses Of The Past

The Wood Side Apartments are the first major interior you will explore in Silent Hill 2 Remake, and thankfully only has a single Glimpse to be found.

Glimpse 6

This Glimpse is found in Room 213. Interact with the scratch marks on the wall to see it.

Blue Creek Apartments Glimpses Of The Past

You will enter the Blue Creek Apartments immediately after Wood Side, as well as it being your first Otherworld area. It has two Glimpses to be found.

Glimpse 7

This Glimpse can be found in the north-eastern corner of Room 110. Interact with the broken table to see it.

Glimpse 8

This Glimpse can be found at the top of the staircase that leads downstairs towards the Pyramid Head boss fight. It only appears after you have finished the Clock Puzzle and opened the 'S' door. Interact with the Mannequin to see it.

Western South Vale Glimpses Of The Past

Western South Vale is one of the largest open areas in Silent Hill 2 Remake, though graciously only has two Glimpses to find.

Glimpse 9

Inside Pete's Bowl-O-Rama, you can find a mostly-eaten pizza by the reception desk.

Glimpse 10

This Glimpse can be found just south of Pete's Bowl-O-Rama, up a staircase between a set of buildings that leads up to a locked door.

Both of these Glimpses can also be found when you revisit South Vale in the Otherworld.

Brookhaven Hospital Glimpses Of The Past

Brookhaven Hospital is far and away the biggest interior area in Silent Hill 2 Remake, and one of the creepiest as well. It has five Glimpses for you to discover.

Glimpse 11

This Glimpse can be found in the Laundry Room by interacting with the trash can.

Glimpse 12

This Glimpse can be found in Room M1 on the second floor. Interact with the chained bed to see it.

Glimpse 13

This Glimpse can be seen in the Medical Records room, accessed during your search for the Marked Bracelet. Interact with the Typewriter to see it.

Glimpse 14

This Glimpse can be seen on the rooftop of Brookhaven by interacting with the broken fence.

The rooftop is no longer accessible once you are thrown through the floor by Pyramid Head, so make sure to see it first.

Glimpse 15

This Glimpse is found in Room I3 on the third floor, accessed after the rooftop. Interact with the bloody splatter to see it.

Otherworld Brookhaven Hospital Glimpses Of The Past

The Otherworld Brookhaven is a twisted version of the hospital you were just in, changing its shape as you complete various puzzles. It has just a single Glimpse to be found.

Glimpse 16

This Glimpse is found in room M5 on the second floor. Interact with the painted hands on the wall to see it.

Otherworld South Vale

The Otherworld version of South Vale lets you revisit many of the areas you may have missed the first time around while quickly progressing through the Eastern and Western sections. There is only one new Glimpse to be seen, though you can also see select Glimpses you missed.

Glimpse 17

This Glimpse can be seen when you return to Neely's Bar by interacting with the bloodied map resting on the bar itself.

Toluca Prison Glimpses Of The Past

Toluca Prison is something that existed in Silent Hill's history, now buried deep beneath the surface as a twisted version of itself, a prison now for James' sins. There are four Glimpses to be found.

Glimpse 18

This Glimpse can be seen right after the cutscene with Eddie. It is sat on a table in the Canteen with a stone slab.

Glimpse 19

This Glimpse can be found in cell A3, sat on an iron bed frame. Interact with the slab to see it.

Glimpse 20

This Glimpse can be found near one of the walls in the Shower section of Toluca Prison.

Glimpse 21

This Glimpse can be found in the Boar section of Toluca Prison, right in the middle of the floor near the locked gate. Interact with the horseshoe and wax to see it.

Labyrinth Glimpses Of The Past

The Labyrinth follows on from Toluca Prison, forcing James to navigate a series of mazes that hit him with his greatest fears at every turn. There is just one Glimpse to be found.

Glimpse 22

This Glimpse is found in the Rotten Area Labyrinth. It is hidden behind a breakable wall, accessed by heading west and then north from the save room with the suspended cage. Interact with the noose in the cage to see it.

Once you complete the Rotten Labyrinth, you cannot return to it, so make sure to see this Glimpse while you can.

Lakeview Hotel Glimpses Of The Past

The grand finale of James' adventure, Lakeview Hotel hits closer to his actual memories than he might have cared to remember. There are three Glimpses to find here.

Glimpse 23

This Glimpse can be found in Room 202 by interacting with the suitcase with the broken Cinderella Figurine inside.

Glimpse 24

This Glimpse can be obtained while in the first floor Employee Section. Interact with the broken Snow White Figurine in the Pantry to see it, though be wary of any nearby monsters since you'll be defenseless in this section.

Glimpse 25

This Glimpse can be found before you even enter Lakeview Hotel proper. On the right side of the garden, you will find a fish fountain with a plaque on the front. Back around to the walk and interact with the Little Mermaid Figurine to see this Glimpse.

Otherworld Lake View Hotel Glimpses Of The Past

The last step in James' journey, after coming to terms with his role in Mary's death. There is graciously only a single Glimpse to witness here.

Glimpse 26

This final Glimpse of the Past can be found in the Reading Room of the Otherworld Lakeview Hotel. Interact with it on the sofa to see it.
