All the following quotes have something memorable about them, whether it be how a particular line is phrased or how poignant and meaningful the words are.

Spoiler Warning - Some quotes touch on later plot points in the story

10 "How Does It Feel To Be The One Bound And Helpless, Waiting To Die?"

- Senua

At the start of Hellblade 2, Senua is captured as a slave on a boat bound for Iceland to be taken to the Godi and sacrificed along with all the other captives to the giants. However, Senua's boat crashes, and she must fend off the surviving slavers as the storm persists in an opening chapter that proves a riveting and intense start to the game.

It's here you're also introduced to the Northman who captured her, Thorgestr, the son of the Godi. Senua has a chance to kill him but decides to spare him so he can take her to his Viking clan. Now the tables have turned, and he becomes her captive, who she bounds to a post before entering a village ravaged by Draugar. Senua's words would surely make Daenerys Targaryen, the 'Breaker of Chains,' proud.

9 "Look At The Bones. Look At The Bones. That's Going To Be You. That's Going To Be Everyone."

- The Furies

As Senua grows as a character, so do the Furies in her, which are now apparently even more important than you thought. These voices are usually there to overwhelm and debate everything she hears, sometimes sow doubt, and other times throw out helpful hints, but this is one of their most memorable inner conflict dialogues.

Senua is leading a hunt to trap and perform the ritual on the giant known as Saegeirr, one who lives in the sea and feasts on victims from a beach cave lair. As Senua and the others stealthily approach the giant, she takes cover against someone's skeletal remains, which triggers the Furies to drive this grotesque message of caution into her head and bombard her with negative feelings about her success with this task.

8 "Her Dark Heart Seems To Speak To Their Own. I Mean... All The Old Gods Have Left These Lands, So... Well, We Find New Ones Where We Can."

- Fargrimr

Senua just went through what is one of the most intense combat sequences, fighting a crowd of Draugar to rescue a man named Fargrimr from being sacrificed, who happens to know a lot about her. The ritual ends with the Draugar summoning the giant known as Illtauga, who rises from the Earth's crust to crush the remaining foes.

Once Senua and Fargrimr escape, she asks why anyone would worship such beasts, especially since Illtauga spares no one and kills them too. Fargrimr hits back with a wise response, that Illtauga's dark heart is in sync with theirs, and that everyone is desperate to put their fate in new gods when they feel the old ones abandoned them, even brutal killers like Draugar.

7 "I Have Killed A God, Fargrimr. Nothing Is Impossible."

- Senua

Fargrimr informs Senua that she's marked by the giant Illtauga after their last encounter with her, which means she'll want to pursue Senua and kill her. Senua confidently responds that she'll kill Illtauga first, which Fargrimr doesn't believe is possible to accomplish, and expresses his doubts.

Little does he know that in the last game Senua defeated the Norse goddess of the underworld, Hela, and that's precisely what she's referencing here. Senua does indeed go on to become a giant slayer and proves to herself and everyone else that "nothing is impossible." What a triumphant comeback for her character.

6 "We Are Not Our Fathers. There Is Always A Choice. You Taught Me That. You Decide."

- Thorgestr

From a Northman to a wise man, Thorgestr makes an incredible transformation of his own in Hellblade 2 from a vile slaver who'd sooner see Senua dead to becoming one of her closest confidants and believers. His life sadly ends when his own father kills him in front of Senua, but they reunite later at the end of the game where he delivers these final words.

It not only shows Thorgestr's growth and understanding of everything he learned from Senua but also allows him to now help Senua understand that even though they were both horribly let down by their fathers, they have the choice not to be them. And hopefully, this advice warms Senua's heart and helps her make the right decision wherever her path may take her next.

5 "The Past Is Never Past."

- Narrator

A simple phrase spoken by the game's narrator that is yet so powerful and evocative to hear. It represents Senua's core struggle – being able to let go and move on from her past. At the beginning of Hellblade 2, it seems there is still a lot of Darkness within Senua that has a hold over her, which impedes her growth.

The narrator uses this phrase as Senua is transported into a manifested flashback of her childhood village that only holds painful memories of her mother's death and her lover Dillion's. This consuming grief is something Senua is trying to get past, but, in that moment, "the past is never past" and can always come back to haunt you.

4 "Light Fades, Senua. Light Can Be... Killed. The Darkness Is All That Persists. Your Only Constant. There Is No Way Out."

- The Shadow (Zynbel)

The Shadow is part of what keeps holding Senua back in the Darkness. It's a hooded figure who is representative of her father, Zynbel, and is the source of all the negative and painful thoughts Senua is grappling with. This is perhaps the best quote that defines what the Shadow of Zynbel's purpose is all about.

As Senua is put to the test in an alternate dimension the Shadow often transports her to, like her very own Dark Place, she must wield a torch to get past the Shadow's barriers. Sometimes the torch goes out, and it gives an opportunity for the Shadow's voice to pop in and try to prove the point that light dies out and darkness will persist, so there is no use in escaping it, a theme that recurs throughout the gameplay.

3 "You See Things Differently From The Others. Look And You Will See Her. By Her Name You Will Know Her. Nothing Is Born Of Nothing."

- Hiddenfolk

Everyone seems to know about Senua's condition in the sequel game, as well as her unique abilities of seeing runic symbols and piecing them into puzzles, even the mysterious characters known as the Hiddenfolk. They are the key to helping Senua release the giants because they provide her backstory and eventually the giant's true name, so she can complete the ritual.

Who the Hiddenfolk are referring to here is the giant Illtauga, whose actual name Senua learns is Ingunn. Everyone has a name, "nothing is born of nothing," and it's an especially important concept to understand for giants, who were once ordinary people before losing their humanity and being transformed into such monstrosities.

2 "There Are Some Wills So Strong They Dream A New World. A Hel Of Their Own Creation. And They Will Not Sit Lonely In That Nightmare. If You Wake The Dreamer, Does The Nightmare Die?"

-Narrator

If you replace the narrator's voice here with that of Alan Wake's voice actor, Matthew Porretta, you'd think this line would fit just as well in Alan Wake 2 and not even seem out of place. Both games share lots of parallels in their themes and plot points, and this is perhaps the best example of them.

This line will probably stick with you the most due to the fact it's one of the deepest and most thought-provoking quotes made by the narrator, or maybe also because you've played a little too much Alan Wake 2. There's always that underlying element of what's real and what's not in the Hellblade series, and there are many moments in the second game that make you question what's happening to Senua. Did she dream of a Hel of her own?

1 "I Carry It With Me. It Drives Me Forward. It's A Promise, Not A Prison."

- Senua

This represents the change in Senua's mentality and will be the quote that defines her journey in Hellblade 2. The message of the sequel is more of hope and Senua finally being in touch with herself and doing her best to 'move past her past.' In one of the game's best moments, she acknowledges that her past will always be a part of her but that it's no longer her "prison."

It's quite the statement to hear from Senua, particularly if you went through her journey in the last game and saw how broken she was by grief and guilt in her relentless quest in the Underworld, including the rot that would eat away at her flesh. This feels like a good culmination of Senua's arc, and it's nice to see, even though it may have happened a little too fast.
