One such side quest is Romaya's Secret Passage in Sea of Stars and helping Sir Aventry to pass on. Here we will tell you how to start this quest, how to solve the puzzle at the entrance to the passage, and everything you'll need to know to complete the quest.

You won't be able to complete this quest until you have the Fly ability. If you don't have it yet, you'll first need to progress through to end game.

How To Begin The Sir Aventry Quest

To begin the Sir Aventry quest and find the secret passage, you'll first need to talk to Hortence on your ship.

She'll tell you about a soul who's very sad and wants to move on, but there's something keeping his soul tethered to this world. During the discussion it's suggested that Romaya is holding this trinket, and thereby Sir Aventry's soul, hostage.

Next, talk to Yolande, who will tell you about a small island on the map northeast of Wraith Island. There have been reports of people seeing Romaya visit this island often.

How To Solve Romaya's Secret Passage

There are two ways to get the solution to the puzzle of Romaya's Secret Passage entrance.

Find Sir Aventry In The Flooded Graveyard

Your first option is to go to the Flooded Graveyard on Wraith Island, and find Sir Aventry. He'll be in the northern part of the graveyard. Head north till you find the raft, and steer it to the northwestern corner.

Sir Aventry will be standing outside a cave entrance. You don't need to talk to him yet, just go inside the cave.

There will be a few monsters waiting inside. After you deal with them, climb up the wall. Behind some bars is a chest, and along the top of the wall you'll see three colored runes. Memorize these runes: the color, the order, and the shapes.

Visit Yomara In The Marsh

Another way to get the solution is to fly to Romaya's secret passage, and interact with the entrance.

Serai will suggest that Romaya's sister, Yomara, at the Marsh might know something.

Head over to Mesa Island and go to the Marsh. When you talk to Yomara, she reminds you that she can't help you, but in her reminder she mentions looking in her cauldron.

Interact with the cauldron, and you'll get a vision of the wall in the cave in the Flooded Graveyard, showing you the runes.

Solve The Puzzle Of Romaya's Secret Passage

In front of Romaya's Secret Passage are four fan switches: one in front, one on the left, one on the right, and one in the center.

The center fan changes the colors, while the others change the design. The order in which you use the fans doesn't matter, as long as you match the color pattern and the designs. Use the image above as a reference, if you need to.

The color order should be:

  • Left: Red
  • Front: Green
  • Right: Purple

Once you've entered the correct symbols and colors, the door to the passage will open up, allowing you inside.

How To Find Romaya

Once inside, descend two sets of stairs, then continue to follow the passage till it ends in a circle surrounded by candles. Step on the center panel and interact with it, and it'll rise up like an elevator that takes you into the cave in the Flooded Fortress.

Activating the elevator will also open the grate blocking the chest.

Defeat the enemies in the cave, then retrieve Romaya's Journal from the chest.

Next, you'll need to take the journal to Sir Aventry, who's still waiting outside the cave. After he reads through the journal, he gives you a Yellow Flame.

Give the Yellow Flame to the Ferryman, and he'll take you to the Half-Sunken Tower.

Head north till you find a raft. Take it south to a little island, where you'll fight some enemies. Here you'll also find a picnic basket holding four maple syrups and a Rainbow Conch chest.

To get to the Rainbow Conch, take the path on the bottom right corner of the island.

When you're done here, take the raft all the way to the right till you reach another dock. Climb up, and you'll find a campfire and save book.

You won't be able to get into the tower from here just yet. Get back on the raft and take it around the left side of the tower. Use your Graplou to reach the climbable wall and climb up to the platform.

Activate the lever, and a block of wood will drop in front of the tower entrance, allowing you access.

Defeat the enemies inside, then go up the stairs, across the beam, and up more stairs.

There’ll be more enemies for you to fight up here. Defeat them quickly, grab the peaches from the picnic basket, and activate the lever to lengthen the ledge.

Jump down through the hole. You’ll land in some water with a whirlpool. Before going underwater, climb up and open the chest to get 2 obsidian ore.

How To Beat Romaya Again

After entering the waterways, you'll emerge in Romaya's room where you'll confront her about Sir Aventry. She tells you that the item you're looking for is a locket, but that she'll never give it to you.

This triggers a boss battle with her, and you'll have to defeat her again to free Sir Aventry.

Though many of her attacks are the same as when you fought her before, she’s going to be a little stronger this time.

As long as you balance healing and damage really well, and make use of your combos and ultimate attacks, you should defeat her in no time.

Romaya's most common strategy is to use Necromancy to spawn enemies to fight you from her piles of bone and flesh. Your best bet in the beginning will be to destroy those, then you can focus all your attacks on Romaya.

Aside from Necromancy, the other attacks she'll use are:

  • Bone cage: This creates a cage around a party member, prohibiting them from participating in turns. You’ll need to destroy the cage so that the character can act.
  • Felfire Rain: Drops green fire rain on all three of your party members.
  • Bone Pillar: This is her new move. She conjures a bone pillar underneath her. There are three tiers to the bone pillar, and you’ll have to destroy each one before being able to do damage to her directly. Thankfully, each tier only takes one hit to destroy.
  • Eyeball Throw: She creates an eyeball and throws it at one of your characters. Block this to reduce damage.

Once you've defeated her, she gives you the Aventry Locket.

Leave through the door to your left, then head back to Sir Aventry in the Flooded Graveyard. This time, he's waiting in the far western corner of the graveyard.

Give him the locket, which finally frees his spirit to move on. Before he leaves, he gives you the key to his coffin as a thank you.

To find his coffin, jump in the water to the south and swim west till you find an entrance. Go inside, and use the key to open the coffin. You'll receive Eclipse Armor, one for Valere and one for Zale, and the Aventry Crest, which you can give to Teaks.
