Summary

  • Starfield's creative producer Tim Lamb is still hopeful that Starfield will last as long as Skyrim.
  • This comes as Starfield approaches its first birthday - and its first expansion, Shattered Space.
  • Lamb says that the team has plenty of ideas for updates beyond this.

Shortly after Starfield's launch, Xbox boss Phil Spencer expressed his belief that it will become a 12-year game, just like Skyrim. Now, one year after its launch, Starfield's creative producer Tim Lamb says he "hopes" this is still possible, as the team has plenty of ideas for updates.

This comes from our chat with Lamb at Gamescom this year, where the developer reflects on Starfield's journey since its launch last September. He also looks ahead to the game's future - which Lamb hopes will span a full decade, much like Bethesda's other RPGs.

Bethesda On Starfield's Chances Of Being "A 12-Year Game"

“I hope so”, says Lamb, when asked if Starfield could last as long as Skyrim. “We do plan to support our games for a long time. So we always have ideas going around in various levels of completeness, but we're always working on something.”

Lamb didn't share much about what these updates will entail, but he is hopeful about the future, regardless. “We want to continue to support the game for a long time, and I hope that we're able to bring as much joy as I feel like I'm seeing with Shattered Space and the REV-8."

Okay, I'm Ready For Starfield: New Vegas Now

Whether Obsidian or another studio entirely, Starfield deserves extension through a spin-off sequel, similar to that of New Vegas for Fallout.

The REV-8 is the vehicle that was added to Starfield late last month. In true Bethesda fashion, it didn't take long for this to be modded into other vehicles.

Now, we're waiting for Shattered Space. This is the first expansion for Starfield and is set to launch on September 30.

While Lamb wasn't eager to share details on what comes next, another expansion seems to have already leaked. This comes from a trademark filed by Bethesda for the name "Starborn", which is likely the name of future DLC for Starfield. Bethesda has already confirmed that a second expansion is happening, only adding to the chances that this is what the trademark was about.
