One of the best ways to earn gold and build a fortune in Stardew Valley is by growing, harvesting, and selling vegetable or fruit crops. Thanks to your late grandfather, you end up inheriting a huge plot of land in Pelican Town that you can freely clear up and use as a farm. On your farm, you are free to plant all sorts of crops, depending on the season.

One vegetable crop that you can plant on your farm is Summer Squash. This is grown from Summer Squash seeds, and the Summer Squash plant continuously produces more crops throughout the summer season, after it reaches maturity.

Where To Find Summer Squash Seeds

Unlike other vegetable and fruit seeds, Summer Squash seeds cannot be purchased from Pierre's store, the Traveling Cart, or from Jojamart.

Summer Squash seeds can be obtained in various other ways:

Ways To Get Summer Squash

Digging up grass-like spots that sprout between Spring 24 and Summer 20.

Trading in 15 sap at the Raccoon Wife's shop in the Giant Stump.

Opening golden fishing treasure chests between Spring 24 and Summer 20.

Breaking barrels in the Skull Cavern between Spring 24 and Summer 20.

Winning it in the Mayor's prize machine.

Using the seed maker.

How To Grow Summer Squash

In order to grow a Summer Squash plant, you'll need three things: a hoe, Summer Squash seeds, and a watering can.

Once you have all three of these items, you'll need to pick a spot to plant your seeds in.

The best place to set up your farm is beside or close to a water source. That way, you won't have to go too far in order to refill your watering can, especially when you're watering several plots of land.

Make sure the spot you've picked is cleared of any obstructions. Use an axe to get rid of branches and trees in the area. Use a pickaxe to remove stones and boulders. Use a sickle to cut down fibers and wild grass.

Upgrading your tools will enable you to clear out sturdier types of wood and rock.

When you have a clear area on your farm, you can use your hoe to till a plot of land. An upgraded hoe will be able to till multiple plots of land at once.

One optional thing you can do is to fertilize your farm plot. You can use Basic, Quality, or Deluxe Fertilizer to increase the quality of your harvest. If quality is not your priority, you can use Basic, Quality, or Deluxe Retaining Soil in order to increase the chances that your farm plots will stay watered overnight.

Another type of fertilizer is Speed-Gro, but it will not reduce the time between harvests for multi-harvest crops. Summer Squash is a multi-harvest crop, and it will only experience a speed boost during the maturing stages.

Once you have a tilled plot of land, whether it's fertilized or not, you can begin to sow your Summer Squash seeds. Take note that one seed bag will only take up one plot of tilled land.

After you plant your seeds, you'll need to ensure that the plot of land is watered in order for your Summer Squash to grow properly. Watering your farm plots will ensure that they stay watered for the rest of the day.

There's no need to water your plants on days when it's raining.

Summer Squash takes six days to mature. After six days, you can harvest your Summer Squash, and you can harvest from your plant again every three days.

This makes the Summer Squash a great vegetable crop to plant early-on, to ensure that you can maximize the number of Summer Squash harvests every summer season.

Like various items in Stardew Valley, harvested Summer Squash can be of four different levels of quality. As the quality of your Summer Squash improves, the amount of health and energy it can restore when eaten increases. It'll also increase in selling price.

Different Uses For Summer Squash

Apart from selling Summer Squash, there are other uses for the summer vegetable crop.

How To Use Summer Squash As Food

You can consume Summer Squash in order to restore energy and health. This is a good snack to take with you, especially when you're heading for the mines, because you can easily grow and harvest it throughout the summer season.

How To Give Summer Squash As Gifts

You can also give Summer Squash as a gift to the different villagers in town. In order to give this as a gift, you'll need to hold the Summer Squash in your hand, then interact with the villager.

Make sure that you don't have the Summer Squash in your hand if you don't intend to give it as a gift, before you interact with villagers.

Different villagers will have differing reactions to receiving Summer Squash as a gift. Make sure to give this crop as a gift to villagers who like it, so that your relationship with them will improve. Giving this to a villager that dislikes it will sour your relationship with them.
